Advantages: Student discounts and good package deals

Disadvantages: there are better deals out there

I'm not sure how great STA really is. They provide ready packages that are bargain for students as it specifically targets students (round the world deals or Europe trips or day tours).

Thus you may want to consider availing some of these packages. But my friend says there is still an age limit coz she has a lawyer friend who is a mature student but because he's 42, they won't let him avail of the student deals.

Anyhow, if you are planning your own trip and looking at buying flights alone, make sure you also try looking at other websites or arranging the trip yourself. e.g. if within UK, National Express has saver fares (book at least 2/3 weeks in advance)

STA charges differently in their store than with the price they advertise in the internet. The online prices are cheaper but you need to use debit cards. As an international student, I'm only allowed a Solo card which I can't use for online purchases. SO when I paid at STA in Gower St, the lady charged me £15 extra!!!

Also, I've also found that there are still cheaper prices out there and you don't have to be a student to avail of the deal (they're exactly the same flight offered on discount to students in STA.)

I regularly check fares online and I don't feel I ever really hit the jackpot with STA. I think it is a scam to target students. I often find that travelsupermarket.com and cheapflights.co.uk lead to cheaper deals although by then I've already booked my tickets.

If you are flying to a specific Asian country, it pays to visit an Asian travel agency that specializes on that specific destination. Canvass flights because there are always deals they surprisinglu don't advertise in the internet (e.g. Charrie Travel for Southeast Asia at Earl's Court) So it pays to doublecheck and save yourself loads of money!

Summary: Good to check out, but always shop around and try other websites. best deals are online...

serberus, you're funny! but you're also so right :) i guess us students are just careful about our money. but honestly, i have not found a deal in STA that i can't find cheaper elsewhere. If you keep your eyes and ears open, there's so many better ones out there.

For students there is no better place to get a good deal.

Many airlines are the same and ferries. Online I suppose saves them admin, and I know RYanair online and Brittany Ferries online is cheaper than at airport or ferry.
