Advantages: Good cheap quote, helpful
Disadvantages: Insurance looks expensive
I am currently using sta travel to book my round the world travel. They are specialists in gapyear travel and rtw tickets and activities.
They give discounts to students and under 26 year olds.
I am today booking the flights and insurance, booking another appointment was easy, the woman Im dealing with hasnt hassled me to book, and has been more than helpful. Ive phoned her about 5 times when I think of more questions and even if she doesnt know she asks a colleague and we do get answers!
When arriving in the agency, you are immediately asked if you have an appointment or what you want to do. The vicar lane branch in leeds seems to be very helpful and friendly. Its also got a few more people than in the other leeds branch so there are more people to ask if your person doesnt know the answer.
I feel very comfortable booking with this company, and have phoned several now. They seem to be the best agency for the type of trip we are doing, and have given us the cheapest quote. We have booked our visas independently, saving us money, and will also book our hostels independently on the internet.
I have had one appointment with a very helpful lady, who has given us a quote, helped me with questions over the phone, and is going to book it for us this week.
We are using sta travel just for the flights, and for insurance as I phoned many insurance companies who could not give us a better quote for what we wanted.
It was easy to book an appointment, on the sta travel website we entered our details and she phoned me the next day to book an appointment at my local branch.
The thing I like about this agency over the others is that they give you cheaper prices if you are a student or under 26 which we both are. They also have all been travelling themselves so know a lot of extra things which other agencies might not know.
We are booking it through an agency because we have a weird rout that you cant enter into a flight site on your own. It has to either be done on the phone or in person.
I hope that she continues to be helpful even after we have booked the flights as there may be other questions that we have not thought of yet. She has been able to fully answer all the questions Ive had so far. I went to the headrow branch in leeds. All the staff there are friendly and helpful and our appointment was exactly on time.
Summary: I like them so far

- 04/03/09 I'm glad you've had a better experience than me. I was grossly overcharged for the Inca trail, told I HAD to have a porter (you don't you can carry things yourself if you wish) and after having EVERYTHING stolen in the first week of my travels, STA's insurance refused to pay out... because I didn't have a receipt for every single tiny item that was in my rucksack, right down to underwear... because obviously everyone keeps every single receipt they have in their life right? ... So if you buy travel insurance with them take photos of everything you own and keep receipts! |
