Advantages: They're everywhere

Disadvantages: Expensive, bad service, bad deals

As a constant traveller and one big on the backpacking market, I could hardly avoid crossing my paths with this giant company. They have branches all over the world, often situated in student and backpacker areas and they claim to offer the best deals for this type of traveller for flights, holidays, insurance and trips.

However, they don't. Quite frankly they have all the promise of taylor making you your perfect trip and fail to deliver. Instead they push the hard sale on products such as 'youth guided tours' (think coach trips with more alcohol) and their own brand of rip off insurance. The staff are generally ignorant of anywhere they haven't been themselves and even then they go staright for the catalogues to pull out an STA package holiday hidden under the guise of a personal adventure. Try changing a round the world ticket and see how much they charge you... Try making an itinerary that moves away from a standard holiday route and see how much they charge!

I would stay away from STA - with the internet and so much competition, their unique brand of hard sell and high price is surely unnecessary.

Summary: With the internet a click away, ignore this rip off company that treat young people as idiots
