Disadvantages: Losing the remote!!

As the World Wide Web becomes increasingly accessible and fundamental to our lives, it is natural that Teletext (both the ITV and Ceefax) must be feeling the pinch somewhat these days. I hope not. I must spend half an hour a day reading through various pages on various channels (mainly sport related) and it’s an integral part of the day. Feet up after finishing work, read the teletext, who has signed for who in the football world, what’s on the TV tonight, and all the local news stories. Yes they do have websites running in tandem but I'm not here to talk about them!

Maybe I’m slightly biased because I happen to write a page (P479 on ITV Thursday’s North West region if anyone’s interested!!) but I think it’s a great service and I hope it remains around forever. You can’t beat those Saturday’s when your football team is playing on the other side of the country and you can’t get there to see them and you can “watch” the game (and all the others) on teletext. The racing service is spot on too. Yeah I know you can probably get everything you can get on teletext on the net now, but it’s free information at your fingertips (as they used to say). OK I’m not convincing anyone here so I’ll shut up but not before saying LONG LIVE TELETEXT!!
