Advantages: holiday's from £9.50
Disadvantages: storie lines can hurt
The sun newspaper is known for many things, its outrageus storie lines and its bargin holiday deals from £9.50, But it is also know in liverpool as the most hated reading materal ever writen.
Alot of people know why, even if you are not liverpool supporters or even come from liverpool the reason is unforgetable,
for the people that have forgotten or just dont know,
the stadium fell through and 96 people died,
On the Wednesday following the disaster, Kelvin MacKenzie, then editor of The Sun, a British tabloid newspaper with national distribution owned by Rupert Murdoch, used the front page headline "THE TRUTH", with three sub-headlines: "Some fans picked pockets of victims"; "Some fans urinated on the brave cops"; "Some fans beat up PC giving kiss of life".
i have recently been to liverpool, and i saw a woman buying the sun newspaper, and the looks she got from passers by, let alone the man serving her were enough to kill.
The story accompanying these headlines claimed that "drunken Liverpool fans viciously attacked rescue workers as they tried to revive victims" and "police officers, firemen and ambulance crew were punched, kicked and urinated upon". A quote, attributed to an unnamed policeman, claimed that "a dead girl had been abused" and that Liverpool fans "were openly urinating on us and the bodies of the dead". These allegations openly contradicted the reported behaviour of many Liverpool fans, who actively helped the security personnel to stretcher away a large number of victims and gave first aid to many injured.
Yes indeed this is something to be upset and angry by, but what confuse's me is why do the people of liverpool still sell, the sun newspaper ?
i am not questioning the people of liverpool, and i am not insulting them in any way, but it is a question i have been asking myself for a long time now.
i am deeply sorry i have insulted anyone.
Summary: do we really love the sun ??

- 02/09/08 I lived in Liverpool for 6 years around the time of this tragedy and have never heard of this anti Sun sentiment. But that aside, this is the travel section and this particular category is supposed to be about the Sun Travel Shop. |
