Maxwell Scott Leather Holdall Mens
by danny691
Although I had never heard of the Maxwell Scott brand in the past I did a little research into price and quality of their products when a friend offered me the chance to buy their Maxwell Scott Leather Holdall from them. They were planning a once in a lifetime trip around the world, and wanted to sell a few items to partly pay for the ... trip. When my friend offered me the holdall for £100 I didn't know whether it was a fair price or not, so I did a little internet browsing for answers.
The prices I have seen online are upwards of £300, so I feel I got a bit of a bargain, especially considering the holdall was less than a year old, though it had seen many corners of the globe already in all fairness. Handcrafted in the finest Italian leather the bags really are built to last and the quality craftmanship put into them leaves you with something quite special. The medium size is £389.99 direct from www.maxwellscottbags.com and the large is £427.99. I have the medium bag, though it is very spacious indeed. If I am going away for the day with my family then this bag comes in very handy. It has one main compartment which can hold a good deal of things, such as my picnic and beach items.
The Maxwell Scott Leather Holdall comes in classic tan, dark chocolate and night black. I have the classic tan colour, which is the one in the dooyoo picture. The holdall has two zips on it, which can be padlocked together for security reasons if they are to be stowed in the hold during a flight, or just for if you are carrying anything expensive. The zip also runs all the way down both sides of the holdall for that extra bit more accessibility. There are two straps which run all the way around the holdall and are very much like belts as they have typical belt style buckles on them, which is a neat touch. The quality is clear to see, with the strong Italian leather and I also like the fact that the leather is a little bit worn as I find it adds character to the look. There are 'D' eyes on either end of the holdall to allow you to fix the strap to it for easier carrying, or you can simple use the strong leather handles which are lined with suade for grip and comfort. The handles are comfortable to hold and even if i have a full holdall I don't find them uncomfortable at all. The brass detailing such as the zips, buckles and studs really sets the design off and I don't have a problem with the styling at all. There are also brass finished feet to the underside of the holdall.
I have never had any complaints with the holdall and wouldn't change it for anything else when it comes to a hardy travelling bag. Nothing really comes close to it for either functionality or practicality - and certainly not for style!
If you are wishing to compare this holdall to other luggage cases you may be considering then the vital statistics are as follows;
Width: 51cm/20inch
Height: 29cm/11.4inch
Depth: 25cm/9.8inch
Weight: 2.1kg
Capacity: 38litres
These stats were taken directly from the aforementioned website. I wouldn't let the weight put you off, as although this may seem quite heavy, it is a big medium size, so it will accomodate a reasonable amount of holiday things or just general travel items such as beach towels and a change of clothes.
I keep going on about quality, but I just love the feel of the Italian leather and this is the real selling point, along with the design. You don't spend £389.99 on something that you don't like the look of, which is what you are effectively paying for - quality and style. This is a fashion statement, but it is also a very robust and practical one. Look at this as an investment, it really will last you many years and the stylish looks will never age. Briggs & Riley Baseline 50cm Large Travel Satchel
by MEL0611
I love Christmas, I love it because it is Christmas but I love that it gives me time to catch up with family and friends. I have friends that it is hard to get to see during working weeks so Christmas is an ideal time to catch up with them. With that comes a little bit of travelling and I realised I had not reviewed my beautiful travel ... bag, the gorgeous Briggs and Riley Travel Baseline bag. I remember first seeing the brand in a department store and loving the look of it but not loving the price tag, however when in need of a bag I soon found myself in a bidding war on eBay for one and after a few final tense minutes of bidding I am now the proud owner of one and here are my thoughts.
The bag that I have will retail at full price around the £149 mark, now whilst I do believe you sometimes get what you pay for with items, this is well out of my league but when bidding on eBay for it I got mine for £44.99, not bad, yes it had been used but you would never have known. The Briggs and Riley brand can be found in larger department stores as well as online, I know that the website www.bagsdirect.com sells the brand as well but for me eBay was the way forward.
I think it was the overall look of the bag I feel in love with, the shape looks really chic and it is also really easy to transport, whether you are carrying it or putting it into the boot of a car or aeroplane holdall. The actual dimensions of the bag are d: 22.90 xs w: 50 xs h: 30.5cm and its weight is 1kg. I have only ever seeing the design that I have in one shade and that is a soft mink colour with slightly lighter and a beige coloured handle. There is a capacity of 30 litres to the bag.
The bag consists of a main compartment, this is where I put my larger and more bulky items, there is then there are 2 elastic pockets on either side as well as zipped up compartment, which I find great for smaller items that you want to be able to reach with ease. You can really tell the quality of this bag and that the design has been really well thought out, there is no difficulty in packing and when you are done it also fastens down with ease.
When it comes to carrying the bag I can also tell that the handles are of a great quality. The handles are made from leather and feel really comfy. Built onto the bag are the 2 handles that allow you to carry this by holding it or placed upon your shoulder, there is also a larger side shoulder strap that is also really comfy and useful if you are carrying other items as it frees your hands up.
The bag, as I mentioned was brought for me to take on weekends away and having just returned from a couple of days I really do realise the great capacity of this bag, I never travel anywhere lightly, in fact it's a bit of a joke amongst friends but this held 2 pairs of shoes, one being boots as well as a large toiletry and make up bag as well as hair straighteners and never mind all my clothes. With all of this in there the bag is still really comfy.
The bag never looks tired or old fashioned; I think it is one of those classic pieces that will look good for a long time! In summary, I certainly have no complaints about my bag and I am happy to recommend it. The only downside is the original cost as you can end up paying quite a lot out in the beginning for this.
4 put of 5 from me

Fizbag Big Shopper
by danny691
WWW.Fizbag.com is a website I were recommended to visit a number of months ago now. I became fed up of the throw-away plastic bags and so moved on to supermarket 'reuseable' bags which didn't last a great deal longer in all honesty. The other most important point to note is that they are always full of branding, so I visited this website ... in expectation of a bit of colour! There are 5 'Big Shopper' bags currently on offer, costing £4.95 each. You may be thinking this is rather a lot for an 'eco bag', but when supermarket equivalent's are £1 each, it really makes sense. Add colour to your shopping trip and buy something really built to last.
The dimensions of the bag when fully opened up are 45cm x 40cm, the folded size is 14cm x 14cm. The bag is obviously designed to fold up very neatly, and is simple to store in your 'main' shopping bag. The design in the dooyoo image is currently out of stock on the website, though I didn't choose this style anyway. My 'Big Shopper' has a peacock feather design on it in purple, with a baby blue background.
The 'Big Shopper' bag is wipe clean and the tough construction ensures it won't be ripped easily by anything heavy being carried in it. The canvas material has a waterproof finish to it to ensure your shopping won't get wet in typical British weather. I keep my bag in the glove compartment in the car for when I find myself in the town centre shopping. The handles are tough and durable also, and they don't feel to dig in to my fingers, even whilst carrying heavy loads. I don't usually fill the bag full, and I always look after it by folding it up properly after use.
Overall there is little to really fault with the 'Big Shopper', other than the price, perhaps. The build quality is fantastic and is far superior to the supermarket bags often seen for sale at the checkouts. Stand out from the crows with the 'Big Shopper' range of shopping bags, safe in knowledge you are both stylish and environment conscience. Read the complete review |
