Typhoon Foldable Lightweight Shopping Trolley
by anwar7 I live within walking distance of my local high street and like to shop locally as this saves on fuel costs and gives me some much needed exercise! I also prefer to buy fruit and vegetables from the market as the quality is better and prices lower. The problem is that I have suffer from a long term back problem and carrying heavy ... shopping bags is out of the question. Last year I noticed several women with brightly coloured funky looking shopping trolleys. I had always thought that shopping trolleys were something you acquired as you got older! However the sight of these women pulling along their shopping with ease persuaded me that I too should join their ranks! A visit to my local department store later I was the proud owner of a very funky looking shopping trolley! My trolley is made by Typhoon, a company based in Liverpool. I can't remember how much I paid for my trolley but remember it was on offer. Typhoon trolleys are available on the internet and can be purchased through Amazon and Lakeland. Prices do vary but are in the region of £40. There are several designs to choose from including the one I choose a funky black and white large spots version with a red matching flap. What you get for your money. ************************** This is a very lightweight trolley and is fully collapsible. The bag is made of strong polyester and is supported on a metal frame. The bag has a drawstring closure and the outer flat has Velcro fastening. Inside the bag is a fully insulated lining. There are two large pockets on the outside of the trolley and a zipped compartment inside the flat, for keeping your purse secure. There is also a pocket on the outside of the bag designed to carry an umbrella. The rounded metal has a soft grip cover. The trolley is 95 cm tall, 36 cm wide and 30 cm deep. It is large enough to carry a medium sized shop (about 3 standard plastic bags full or 20 kg) .The trolley has two wheels and is really easy to pull along. It is waterproof and can be wiped clean. My opinion. *********** This is not the cheapest model on the market but it does perform well! The bag appears well made and can carry a fair amount of shopping with ease. The insulated main compartment means that I can buy frozen food as well as other food that needs to be kept chilled such as fish from my local fishmonger. When I take my trolley shopping I seldom bother with a handbag as I can zip my phone and purse safely into the compartment contained inside the flap. The handle is very comfortable to hold and at the right height for my 5 .5 frame. The wheels guide along easily and the trolley isn't prone to tip despite its lightweight frame. The trolley is able to stand alone if you need to have your hands free. Any negatives? ************* There really are few negatives as far as I am concerned! It is not possible to buy a replacement bag should it fail. I think the bag will need replacing long before the metal frame has had its day and it would be useful to be able to buy a new bag without having to discard the frame. The handle height cannot be adjusted so this may not suit everyone. Overall I really like this trolley and feel it has enabled me to shop locally saving on fuel and plastic bags! I also think it is often less expensive to shop for fruit and vegetables in the market than to buy from big supermarkets. Read the complete review |

Typhoon Natural Dots Fold Up Shopping Trolley
by i_am_joy I bought this Typhoon shopping trolley roughly two years ago for one specific purpose, the Good Food Show. I adore the event but always become weighed down with carrier bags of purchases, along with the generous freebies handed out seemingly without prejudice. The previous year I had embarrassed myself by quite literally having more bags ... than I could carry, luckily my daughter was with me with her pram otherwise I don't know what I would have done. I wanted to be prepared this time, and this wheeled bag proved ideal. It folds to a fairly compact size; due to the size of the wheels you are never going to fit it into your handbag, but the bag is so lightweight you can pop it into a cotton shopping bag and carry it over your shoulder. The bag opens out easily with a quick shake and loses its creases quickly after opening, unlike traditional shopping trolleys which often have some kind of mechanism to fiddle around with before they are fit for use. The bag itself is made of canvas and has a little too much give. If you use it to transport heavy or bulky items the lack of structure causes the canvas to sag, this can lead to the edge of the bag dragging along the floor and sometimes pushes the wheels outwards - something that doesn't affect the 'push' of the bag (or rather, the pull) but does look a little strange. The dragging could be a problem on certain surfaces, I have personally only used mine on the smooth surfaces of Olympia and occasional forays into large shopping centres. While the canvas does look grubby quickly, it's by no means an excessive dirt collector and will clean easily if you use a cloth soaked in hot soapy water. The fabric is not damaged, although I can see that if you were to regularly use the bag on outdoor surfaces it could easily wear away on the edges or corners. This does limit its usefulness somewhat as it would not last long with regular shopping trips, but for my purposes it has been ideal. The bag is smooth to pull along and will hold a reasonable amount of shopping; the design dictates that you will not be able to fit as much in as with a rigid body trolley but, again, this has been fine for my needs. The handle is a strongly attached canvas with a padded strip for hand comfort; not be be disagreeable but I would have preferred Typhoon hadn't bothered with the padding as I like a straight handle. I am happy with my bag, even when fully laden it feels reasonably light and the wheels are straight and strong. The fact that it is not as roomy as other shopping trollies is not a problem as the design of the bag reveals immediately that this is the case, it's designed more to be compact than to hold a large amount - although having said that, it will comfortably carry enough to save your arms aching from too many carrier bags. Typhoon Natural Dots Fold Up Shopping Trolley
by northernlovely Not so long ago, think of a shopping trolley and you'd think of an old person pushing a square box, usually brown or grey, made of thin, cheap plastic and tubed stainless steel, with a nylon bag in it. Not trendy, not for the under seventies, and certainly not fun. But what about ladies of a certain age who'd happily use a ... wheeled bag, if there was a trendier option out there? And here we have it. The Typhoon travel bag is available in many different designs, but the one I got for my mum is the natural dots one, as shown above. It looks like a fun big shopper bag, with wheels, rather than a boxy frame. Rather than a steel or plastic handle you can just pull it by the shopper handles which are made of a durable woven nylon, are waterproof, and have a soft wrap to keep them together. The bag itself is a good size, and is again waterproof so no worries about going out in the rain or wheeling it through a puddle. The bag itself looks very modern, trendy, and more than usable for any age - certainly if I had something heavy to carry I wouldn't mind pulling this along (I'm 29!) and my mum thinks it's very 'hip' (she's 65!). So no complaints in the style stakes. Crucially what sets this apart from old style wheeled trolleys is that this one actually folds up which makes it great for use when travelling, on public transport and so on. It has an umberella holder on the side, too, which is very handy, and the front pocket whilst not particularly secure is good for your newspaper or a snack (it holds flat things better when the bag is full). The build quality is excellent - the sorts of things my mum puts in it - potatoes, big bottles of oil, even pots of paint, and it's stood up to the challenge, the wheels are strong and sturdy and the stand is solid, the bag is well made and won't rip or tear easily, or fray, and the main zip is of a decent quality too. Overall my mum has no complaints and I am glad that I chose the Typhoon travel bag, not just based on it's looks (which initially was the main draw for me) but for it's quality, too. I loved it so much I have since bought one in a different design for my aunt who is 80 and she takes it to the shops most days! You can pick it up for under £20 on Amazon including delivery however I have also seen it in independent travel goods and shoe shops too. £20 is a good price for it however and I haven't seen it cheaper. So yes, I do highly recommend the Typhoon fold up shopping trolley, it's a great item, and it doesn't compromise on style. No more old fashioned shopping trolleys, every lady should have one of these! Read the complete review |
