      soft sided bag

Whilst on holiday in France a few years ago I realised that all my new purchases were just not going to fit into my suitcases. The obvious solution was to buy another bag! I didn't want to spend a lot of money and as my car boot was already quite full with my other cases; I needed a bag that was soft enough to be squashed down! I decided to take a look in the local sports outlet to see what they had on offer.

After much debate I finally decided to buy a large oblong Addias bag as it looked good and seemed to offer decent quality for its price tag. I can't remember exactly how much I paid, but this bag is on offer from several retailers in this country including Amazon (£23.40) and John Lewis (£ 28).

This is quite a large bag with a capacity of 80.8 litres. It measures 70 x 32 x 32 cm and is made of tough polyester. There are two side pockets as well and the main compartment in accessed via a zip opening. There is a long main strap and two centre fabric handles that are secured together with Velcro. I really like the black and grey colours of this bag and the white familiar Addidas logo finished it off nicely. My son has used this bag to carry his sports equipment as it looks cool in his eyes!

I have been using this bag for a few years now and have found it really useful. Although hard sided cases are probably stronger, being rigid they can't be squashed into small spaces in my boot- a consideration when you need to pack several cases! Soft bags like this one are also very useful for taking on caravan or R.V holidays as once emptied they can be squashed up for storage.

The zips are the things that usually fail on these types of bags, but this one seems well made and all zips are still functioning. The polyester fabric is strong and the bag shows no sign of wear, even around the edges of the bag. For air or train travel I would prefer a bag with wheels for easy manouvering; however this one is great for car travel!

Overall I think this is an excellent bag for the money and hope it will give me many more years of service!

A very durable all purpose holdall

I bought the Adidas Essenitals 74cm Team Bag as an 'emergency bag' - my dad was in hospital having just had a stroke, and I'd built up, over the 15 days he was in hospital, quite a collection of clothes and pyjamas bought locally, with no way to take them home! So I purchased this bag based almost entirely on size and price. It's classed as a medium, but it's actually rather large, and I paid the bargain price of £9.99 for it from Sports Soccer in Leeds. That's a great price as it's usually seen at around £15 - £25.

The bag is a decent sized one in both width, length and depth and has three compartments, one zipped one at each end, and the large zip around the top for the main compartment (it goes in a large C shape rather than being just a slit opening - great for getting folded clothes into). Also, in the largest compartment there is a thin plastic mesh 'essentials pouch' zipped, for travel essentials, personal items and so on. Very handy if you are travelling, for a passport, or for money, or, like my dad, for his watch and shaving set.

The bag is styled in black and grey with the white Adidas logo off centre. It has two strong short black handles, which velcro together, or you can use the removable shoulder strap for carrying. It's a pretty rugged, waterproof bag which is made to last - and would be great for sports, as well as travel (or other uses such as hospital visits). It's pretty neutral and can be used really by either sex, and is suitable for all ages (though can be heavy when fully packed due to it's size - so a younger child or older person may be more suited to a wheeled bag).

It's very roomy - I fitted in four pairs of jeans, two joggers, eight polo tops / t shirts, and still had room in the sides for personal items, socks, underwear and so on. Yes it was heavy but it was very very useful!

Since my dad has returned home and recovered we have taken the bag back as a weekend travel bag for my husband for work and for family visits. It has been well used and in the two years we have had it has remained as good as new. No complaints whatsoever. I really do strongly recommend this bag as a budget (at £9.99) sports and travel bag, which is well made, waterproof and very durable. Overall I'm very pleased with my rush purchase and will be buying more items from the Adidas brand in future. Since buying this bag I have bought a smaller kit bag for my Nephew for Christmas which is in my opinion equally well made, so I am sticking to my trusted brand now!

Five out of five - a great bag.
