Antler Aeon Air 33cm Trolley Bag
Advantages: Well made, versatile, attractive
Before one of my best friends moved to Sydney in June she held a big sale at her house of all the clothes, accessories and bits and pieces that she wasn't going to take with her. Along with the dresses and scarves I snapped up, she also let me have her almost-new Antler trolley bag for £10! Antler are a leading luggage company whose products are usually very expensive so I was delighted to pick it up at that price. I have the smaller version of the trolley bag (52 x 28 x 27 cm) which retails for £79.99 on their website, but there is also a larger version (70 x 34 x 33 cm) which costs £105.
The bag is dark grey in colour with a hard bottom and the rest made of strong fabric, the kind of quality you would expect from Antler. The zipper is robust with a padlock attached which is useful, although I don't use it regularly. There are two straps which join together with Velcro to form the main handle if you want to carry it like a bag. However, there is also a retractable metal shaft with a handle at the top which extends up to around waist height like a suitcase. There is a button on the top of the handle which allows the sturdy shaft to extend and collapse again easily. This, along with the rubber wheels, makes it the idea travel bag. It also has a grab handle which helps to lift the bag easily.
The bag is deceptively large as the material allows you to fill the bag to the brim and still zip up which is always an issue with hard suitcases. The metal shafts stick protrude into the case from the outside which does make packing more difficult but does not take up much space. There is a separate compartment inside the bag with its own zip which is handy for keeping anything that you might need to find quickly (or for me, anything that might leak like toothpaste!)
The bag is the perfect size to take as hand luggage on a plane which is one of the main reasons I wanted it. I also occasionally travel by train to see my parents for the weekend and it's nice to have a small weekend bag which I can carry as necessary but also wheel around when I need to walk through a train station.
I love having a trolley bag as hold-alls can be bulky and hard to carry around. The wheels make it easy to transport when I'm on the go but I can fold the handle back down and carry it by hand when necessary. Antler have a fantastic reputation and this trolley bag does not disappoint. The quality of the materials is excellent, especially the wheels which are often the downfall of bags and suitcases. I am very happy with the case but especially the fact that I only paid £10. I don't think I would pay the full amount as there are much cheaper versions on the market which would work absolutely fine, however for those who are happy to pay, it comes with my recommendation!
I will give the bag 4 out of 5, losing the final star for the price.
Summary: An excellent travel bag!
