Cath Kidston Book Bag - Spot berry
When I went back to university last year I soon learnt that trying to over commute quite a distance and take with me all the library books, notebooks and general handbag items was a bit of a nightmare. I wanted a substantial bag to carry my books about, but I didn't want to resort to a back pack and I wanted something more stylish and something that I could easily carry around with another handbag, while being large enough to hold everything I needed. I first started looking at cloth bags but I soon went off the idea because I live in Scotland and you never know when it is going to rain, it can be sunny one moment and then torrential downpours the next, which all lead me to the Cath Kidston book bag. The oilcloth material that the bag is made from is great for just wiping clean, which means that even if I pop my bag on the not so clean ground for a moment a quick wipe later with a damp cloth and it's back to looking like new.
The bag I own looks different to the one above, as I own the berry spot design. It is a lovely dark red colour with beige spots. The Cath Kidston book bag does come in a range of different patterns, which is nice if like me you want something a little more modern looking but still with a classic design.
The bag has one internal pocket then the rest is just an open compartment. The openness of the bag can itself be a small annoyance in more torrential downpours of rain, but I have always managed to keep more or less everything inside from becoming sodden even in the worst of the weather. It also works well when you are juggling lots of other things because you can just drop and pick up items in and out of the bag without any real thought. Also the one internal pocket (although rather small) does have enough room to hold your keys and mobile phone etc, so that you do not need to be digging around searching for some of your smaller items that may just become lost at the bottom of a full bag.
If you are not lucky enough to live by a Cath Kidston store (which is great if you get the chance to browse) you can still pick up this bag from many other outlets, such as John Lewis. I paid £18 for mine, which although is expensive for a book bag you are paying for something that will last and last and I have put mine through it's paces over the last year and it still looks nice and smart.
So do you even need to ask if I would recommend the Cath Kidston oilcloth book bag?
Yes I absolutely would. It's a great bag and in my opinion it's not nearly as hard deciding on whether to invest in it as it is deciding which lovely pattern to choose. I have used and used mine and it still looks in not quite perfect condition but not far from it. I also think that the Cath Kidston bag would go down a treat as a Christmas present to someone who needs a functional bag or for someone who just loves the look of the Cath Kidston range because there are so many things you could use this bag for and not necessarily for carrying books.
To sum, I love my Cath Kidston bag and even with the expensive price tag I still believe that on the whole the bag fully deserves five out of five stars. And just in case any of my friends stumble across this review and are ever short on ideas of what to buy me for Christmas or Birthdays I would love another one of these bags just in a different pattern!
