Gorgeous bag that I will keep for years

I love the Cath Kidston brand, as the designs and patterns and are always gorgeous and quirky, and the items themselves are always of really nice quality.

The only thing I don't like is the price as it can be quite expensive, so for this reason I tend to treat myself to one item from the Cath Kidston shop every few months, or ask for something for my birthday.
I haven't bought anything for ages from here, but my latest Cath Kidston purchase was the 'British Birds Overnight Bag' as I had been after a biggish bag for a while, one that I could use for situations when a handbag isn't big enough but a suitcase is too much.

I bought my bag from the York branch of Cath Kidston, which is a lovely shop. It is set out really nicely, it's really big and spacious, and the way the products are displayed looks brilliant - it is kind of set out like a house (an amazingly well decorated and furnished house). It is deceptively small from the outside, but when you get in it's much bigger and they sell a lot - including clothes, bags, fabric, homeware, phone/camera cases, and other accessories.

I knew I wanted some kind of large bag when I visited the shop, and there was the overnight bag in a few designs, as well as some handbags which were really quite large, and I therefore considered buying.
I ended up going for the overnight bag as it came in the 'British Birds' print, which I loved. It is as beautiful as the other Cath Kidston prints but not as instantly recognisable as some of the others, as it doesn't have the floral/vintage design that a lot of Cath Kidston items do. As the name suggests this print was made up of birds, all different birds, and it's really interesting to look at, the bag always gets me compliments whenever I use it. The background colour is really really dark blue, I like this as it makes the birds stand out more with it being so dark.

The bag is made from oilcloth, as are a lot of other Cath Kidston products. The material is good as it's wipeable and quite well protected due to the PVC coating (it doesn't make it look too cheap or shiny though). The bag is quite large (about 50cm wide) and also pretty spacious and deep inside, I can easily fit enough items in it for a weekend away. It fastens with a zip, which goes length ways across the top of the bag, so nothing falls out, and there is also a zipped compartment inside it. There are two canvas straps to the bag, these can be worn over my shoulder when the bag isn't too full, but when it's full it's far too bulky for this and has to be just carried by the handles.

The bag cost just short of £70, I think it was £68, which isn't too cheap for a bag which I don't use that frequently, but it is fantastic quality and it was a treat to myself.

Over all, this bag gets a great verdict from me in terms of both looks, and quality. I haven't used it that many times compared to other bags, due to it being for quite a specific use (nights away mostly). However, I have used it a good few times and it's still in perfect condition. As I said before I always get compliments on the bag and I still absolutely love the design of it. I don't think I will need to replace this item for several years, so although it isn't the cheapest item, it is proving to be good value.

A truly gorgoeus bag, well worth all those pennies!

I am a massive fan of Cath Kidston products (my kitchen looks like a Cath Kidston shop lol) and one of my most loved possessions is the Cath Kidston British Birds weekend or overnight bag, which I purchased for £68 some time last year. As I did not want to buy anymore handbags (I have far too many) but felt that I absolutely had to buy something in this particular design, I opted for the overnight bag. This is because I thought that it would not only come in handy for holidays or nights away, but I could also use it for uni, on those days when I have to take in a load of stuff, which would not otherwise fit in my ordinary carry-all bag.

This design is absolutely exquisite, I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it, as it is slightly different from the other typical floral or polka dot Cath Kidston designs. It features various types of birds perched on branches which are in full bloom (looks like it could be cherry blossom), all in different positions, which gives you the impression that they are all doing different things. Some of the birds look like they are singing as their heads are up and beaks slightly open and some of them look like they are just about to fly off as their wings are spread out. There are some which simply look like they are resting and others that seem to be looking around them, there is even one that looks a bit sad. The birds are very colourful, most of them in red, blue, white and brown, which makes them look quite tropical and exotic, so I don't really understand why Cath Kidston actually named this design "British Birds". The design looks almost vintage but at the same time young and fresh.

The bag itself is a dark navy colour, almost black, and is made out of the famous Cath Kidston oilcloth (100% PVC coated cotton), which is easy to wipe and durable. The inside of the bag is 100% cotton lined and there is a large zipped compartment (the zip features a leather pull tab with Cath Kidston embossed on it). There is also a care label inside the bag, advising to wipe clean with a damp cloth, made in China etc. The bag measures approximately 49 (length) by 32 (height) by 18 (depth) cm, making it quite spacious and, as advertised, ideal for weekends or nights away. The bag opens and closes via a zip (again with the same leather pull tab as the one inside) and the navy canvas handles have brown leather trims with contrast white stitching, this adding to the bag's good looks. Also, for the designer snobs, there is an "Original Cath Kidston Ltd London" logo stitched on the front of the bag, between the handle leather trims, highly visible as made of white material which stands out on the navy background. The bottom of the bag features four large gold metal studs placed in all four corners of the bag, which are designed to protect the bottom of the bag when placed on the floor.

Now, I shall give you my opinion of the bag. It is absolutely stunning and receives many compliments when carried around. In the one year that it has been used (probably once a week at least, but no more than twice a week), it has proved to be robust and durable, with no rips or holes in it and stitching still intact. The zips still work smoothly. Truly, there are no signs of wear, apart from a very few minor scratches on the bottom, hardly noticeable. The bag itself is more than fit for purpose, very spacious and you can easily fit in enough clothes for a weekend away plus a couple of pairs of shoes! The outside of the bag is also easy to clean with a slightly damp cloth, but the inside, being a light grey colour tends to mark easily. My only gripe with this bag is that the handles are quite short, making it almost impossible to carry it over your shoulders when full, however I really cannot take away a star just for that, so I have awarded the lovely British Birds Overnight Bag a full 5 out of 5 stars!

Gorgeous, high quality weekend travel bag

I received this Cath Kidston travel bag as a belated Christmas gift. I think that it was probably purchased in the sale, it is now reduced to £50.00 from £68.00, even so at £50.00 it is still a lot to pay, I had been lusting after this bag for quite some time, and all the little hints I dropped obviously worked! I already own quite a few different bits and pieces by Cath Kidston and I have a wish list of many more items!

This travel bag is a perfect size for a weekend away, I can get all that I need take for a few days away in here, including a couple of pairs of shoes and toiletries. I would say that a weekends worth of stuff is the bags limits, if you are going away for 4 or 5 days or more then this bag won't cut it, unless you travel really light - which I don't!

This is a perfect size as a carry on for any airline, it will easily fit in the overhead lockers, it isn't too big and bulky. It is made of a tough, wipe clean oilcloth fabric, which I have found to be waterproof in the rain, and obviously any spills or drips will just wipe off this easily enough with a damp cloth. It has two sturdy webbing handles, affixed to the bag itself with leather squares, and leather patches on the tops of the handles. You can very easily carry this by hand, or it does fit snuggly over your shoulder if you prefer to carry it this way. The zip seems to be good quality and fairly sturdy, so even if you pack the bag full then you don't need to worry that the zip will give out. I like the flat sturdy base on the bag which means that it stands easily on the floor, or on the bed, whilst you are packing.

I love the funky birds and flowers design on my bag, it is unusual without being too weird and wacky.
I would definately reccomend this travel bag to anyone, yes it is expensive, but it is very good quality as are all Cath Kidston products, and it will last you for years and years.

A lovely weekend bag, that is expensive, but is gorgeous nontheless!

I received this fab overnight bag as a Christmas present, which I was really pleased about. I think my family have finally cottoned on to the fact that I do a lot of travelling around and on my last visit home saw that my bag lost it's handles....it really was looking like a state. Luckily for me they went and got me this Cath Kidston overnight bag, which is just perfect for slinging in the back of my car or carrying onto the train. The bag is standard hand luggage size, so you can take it onto an airplane (even a budget airline).

It's made from a wipeable, oilskin type material, which means that not only can you wipe off any marks and spills, but also it is reasonably waterproof. The inside has a cotton lining and the zip seems to be of good quality (I've only used it a couple of times so far), it doesn't catch on anything when opening and closing the bag. The straps are made from a webbing and seem to be quite sturdy, they are securely fastened and don't look like they are pulling on the fabric of the bag when it is full and you're lugging it around.

In terms of size, I can fit a weekends worth of clothes, a couple of pairs of heels and my toiletries in, which when you think about it is all you really need from a weekend bag. What I like most about this bag is the fantastic pattern on it. Typical of all Cath Kidston's products it has a quirky pattern that could be seen as old fashioned, but I think it is really quite cool. The background is black (good for hiding any marks you can't wipe off), and all over are different types of birds all sat on branches, interspersed with flowers. It isn't as bright as some of Cath Kidston's designs, but then I think such a huge bag couldn't cope with a really bright pattern.

All in all I think this is a fabulous bag and I really am pleased it was a present, because I have just seen how expensive it was. Most online retailers price this bag between £60-£70, not a cheap investment. I remain to be convinced about how sturdy the bag is in the long term, because I have only been using it for 3 weeks, but I hope it will last for a long time because I love it!

An overnight bag from the Cath Kidston range.

A few months ago I'd never heard of the name Cath Kidston and many of my friends were the same, yet overnight she seems to have become a household name that is continuously growing in popularity. You may well still be living in the pre-Cath Kidston era and be wondering who on earth is this visionary woman? Well in 1993 Cath Kidston opened her first shop in London where she sold vintage fabrics, wall papers and brightly painted furniture and as time went on she started to design her own classically "cute" prints. She based her designs and products on being practical, quirky and with very distinctive prints which have now come to epitomize the Cath Kidston brand. It's almost like she has adopted the traditional English country manor house style to create a brand that is countrified yet modern as well.

The brand grew considerably and in 2008 launched itself outside of London with there now being over forty Cath Kidston shops and concessions in the UK with the number set to grow even further as her popularity spreads. She's been referred to as one of the most original and influential designers to emerge from the UK in recent years. Her collection consists of accessories (purses, wallets, umbrellas, etc), bags (day bags, tote bags, travel bags, etc), fashion (clothing for women) and home products (bedding, stationary, tableware, etc). It is a large collection that branches into many products and you really can't mistake the products as they often feature intricate and repeated flower / nature patterns. I own a Cath Kidston pencil case, a Cath Kidston laundry bag and now this overnight bag as well... and I'm constantly complemented on them! I've also found about five other products that I'm desperate for!

In the summer when I finished school for the year I was bought a present from a couple of my kids that came in an absolutely huge bag, well it was huge by the normal teacher present standards. I eagerly opened it (praying I wouldn't be disappointed by some gigantic paper maiche model of myself that they'd created... yes this has happened before... very bizarre indeed!) and found a Cath Kidston British Birds Overnight Bag. I was absolutely delighted as well as being shocked at the thoughtfulness of this!

The bag takes the form of a classic holdall which is mainly black and covered with the British Birds print (beiges, blues, greens, reds, etc). The print features birds sat on branches, an odd print to choose you may think but it looks really good and is so typical of her designs as it retains that classic country feel which seems somehow old fashioned but isn't. The bag is made from a wipe clean oilcloth which is ideal if you have any spillages and has sturdy webbing handles with leather detailing as well which complements it further. It has a cotton lining and the size of it is 49cm by 32cm by 18cm. It opens and closes using a zip which is really smooth, it doesn't catch or anything like some zips can often tend to do. I can easily get clothes for a weekend away in it along with two pairs of shoes and make up necessities too. It's ideal as a carry on for going on planes or for weekends away, mine has been used many times already! The only downside is that I have scratched the underneath, mainly from placing it on floors and such like, but due to the material the scratches do scratch into the material and so can't be removed which is rather sad.

This is probably one of the best presents I've ever had from school as I absolutely love it and will continue to use it for years to come. I'd definitely recommend this as being a reliable and sturdy bag, yet it still retains that fashionable element due to being a Cath Kidston product. The only downside is something that seems to come hand in hand with many fashionable products... a rather large price tag which isn't quite so fashionable! The bag costs a rather inflated £68 at present. In the past I've always paid around the £30 to £40 mark for a holdall so this one is arguably twice the price and if I'm honest, I probably wouldn't have bought it myself. Her whole range is quite pricey with a simple item such as a pencil case costing £8... yes you would go mad if your child lost that one on their first day! I do absolutely love it but I think the price tag is just a little too high... if you're willing to spend the money then I'd say go for it but if you think it's a bit of a splurge then I'd wholeheartedly agree with you. Either way you can't help but love this bag with its fashionable façade and intricate prints... four stars from me!

      Thanks for reading.
