I always try to not use any plastic carrier bags when I do my shopping and for this reason I have quite a few reusable bags. Not only are they much better for the environment they are usually a lot sturdier so I don't have to worry about them bursting and dropping my shopping all over the ground like has happened to me several times with plastic carriers. An added bonus of reusable bags is that you can get some really nicely designed ones too. I got a fizbag large shopper from my sister who had been buying herself one. Mine is different from the picture on dooyoo as it has a polkadot design but there are several different designs to choose from with this manufacturer. The bag is a dark green colour and has lots of bright pink polka dots adorning it so it certainly stands out when I take it shopping. The material used to make the bags is waterproof and very sturdy with the handles being stitched on. I was a little worried that the stitching might start to come loose if I overfilled the bag but so far this hasn't been a problem unlike with some of the supermarkets own bags for life where the stitching hasn't been up to scratch. There is loads of room in the bag for a lot of shopping and I can easily get into it what I could in about 3 carrier bags. This means that I need only take this bag with me if I am planning on only doing a little shop but the downside of being able to get more in it is of course that it becomes almost too heavy to carry if I buy tins etc. The dimensions of the bag are 45cm x 40cm when opened but when it's not in use you can just fold it down into a small square making storage of it easy. I tend to just keep my bags in a drawer folded up and this is definitely one of the better ones to fold easily as some tend to not go back into the shape you want and can take ages to collapse and fold back up. You can buy a fizbag big shopper for around £5 and I would definitely recommend them. They are great quality and look really good too and will save you a lot of time and money in the long run when you consider some shops are now charging 5 pence for a plastic carrier bag.
WWW.Fizbag.com is a website I were recommended to visit a number of months ago now. I became fed up of the throw-away plastic bags and so moved on to supermarket 'reuseable' bags which didn't last a great deal longer in all honesty. The other most important point to note is that they are always full of branding, so I visited this website in expectation of a bit of colour! There are 5 'Big Shopper' bags currently on offer, costing £4.95 each. You may be thinking this is rather a lot for an 'eco bag', but when supermarket equivalent's are £1 each, it really makes sense. Add colour to your shopping trip and buy something really built to last. The dimensions of the bag when fully opened up are 45cm x 40cm, the folded size is 14cm x 14cm. The bag is obviously designed to fold up very neatly, and is simple to store in your 'main' shopping bag. The design in the dooyoo image is currently out of stock on the website, though I didn't choose this style anyway. My 'Big Shopper' has a peacock feather design on it in purple, with a baby blue background. The 'Big Shopper' bag is wipe clean and the tough construction ensures it won't be ripped easily by anything heavy being carried in it. The canvas material has a waterproof finish to it to ensure your shopping won't get wet in typical British weather. I keep my bag in the glove compartment in the car for when I find myself in the town centre shopping. The handles are tough and durable also, and they don't feel to dig in to my fingers, even whilst carrying heavy loads. I don't usually fill the bag full, and I always look after it by folding it up properly after use. Overall there is little to really fault with the 'Big Shopper', other than the price, perhaps. The build quality is fantastic and is far superior to the supermarket bags often seen for sale at the checkouts. Stand out from the crows with the 'Big Shopper' range of shopping bags, safe in knowledge you are both stylish and environment conscience.
Whilst out shopping with my friend the other week I realised just how many local shops in my area are starting to either charge for carrier bags or not give them out at all. Now whilst I am in total favour of them being banned it occurred to me that I was going to have to start taking a shopping bag out with me. I had a sudden vision of my Grandma with her little tartan shopping bag and thought I needed to find something practical yet reasonably modern. After a bit of online research I came across the strangely named Fizbag and it seemed to be just what I was looking for. The Fizbag big shopper is a nice sized shopping bag that folds neatly back into a small square that can be carried in your handbag Fizbags are a type of bag for life but are advertised as having a much longer life than the supermarkets bags for life. They come in several different styles and there are lots of stylish designs to choose from. I bought a Fizbag Big Shopper and opted for a pink giraffe print design. I paid £4.95 for my Fizbag and I bought it from www.fizbag.com . Fizbag shoppers are made from a canvas material with a waterproof coating both inside and out, and as I said come in several designs and colours. The shopper is 45cm's x 40cm's when opened up and when folded measures 14cm's x 14cm's. It comes with a small pouch to store the bag in while you are not using it. The bag has a little tag inside with the idea of tying the pouch to the inside pf the bag whilst using it, I personally never do this, the pouch just stays in my handbag. I have had no problems re folding my bag back into its little pouch, it has what the manufacturer describes as "memory creases" and is just as easy to fold as it is open up. The sides are sturdy do the bag doesn't collapse on itself, useful if you are doing a food shop. I have been really pleased with my Fizbag shopper, I keep it permanently in my handbag so I have always got it with me. It is so handy when you are out shopping, you always have a bag to hand and don't end up buying yet another plastic carrier bag. As I mentioned they have a waterproof coating over them so are very easy to keep clean, just a quick wipe down with a damp cloth and its done. Also being water proof makes them ideal for swimming and the beach. and as they come in lots of different designs and colours they look nice and trendy. If you are currently thinking of Christmas shopping these would make a great stocking filler, they are useful, practical and look nice too. I would recommend anyone to keep one in the car or their bag, they are so useful.
I love these reusable shopping bags, they're eco friendly, they're convenient and they look great. The Fizbag big shopper is vibrant and colourful and looks more stylish than traditional plastic bags. When you open the bag fully, it measures 45cm x 40cm and when it is folded it measures 14cm x 14cm. This means that you fold it up and keep it in the car or your bag. I have to admit though that the only downside to the bag is that it doesn't fold smaller as if you're carrying a small handbag they can take up a lot of space. Although I guess that you can't have it all, as the size of the Fizbag means that you can carry lots in it and it is great for doing a top-up grocery shop. The Fizbag is waterproof which is a plus when compared to other reusable cloth bags. The handles are sturdy and you don't feel like they're digging into your hands when you're carrying something handy. It is also very easy to keep it clean; you simply wipe it clean with a damp cloth. The low price of these bags means that it's easy to buy a few of them to keep in the car when you go shopping. I also find that they make great stocking fillers and everyone who I've given one to is now a fan too.
The Fizbag Big Shopper is a great alternative to carrier bags without having to carry a hessian 'eco-bag' - basically it's a bit brighter and a bit more trendy. The Big Shopper is available from Amazon.co.uk, independent shoe and bag shops / stalls, and via Fizbag direct, for around £3, which is a great price for a long lasting large shopper bag. It is available in a variety of bright and fashionable prints and colours, and is made of durable coated plastic which means it is fully waterproof and will not tear or fray like cheaper or less durable bags. The bag is carried as a small pouch with a carry strap (or you can just keep it in your handbag) and is folded out when in use. It holds more than enough for a decent size shop (a few meals, bottle of milk and so on) for my husband and I and doesn't hurt your hands when carried. There isn't much more to say on the Fizbag Big Shopper - it does exactly what it should, and that's be a convenient, easy to use and well made bag which is a great and eco alternative to plastic shopping bags without compromising on looks. For the money you really cannot complain, I have bought them as gifts for my mum and aunts and they love them, and they get a lot of use out of them. I can only give these bags five out of five, pick one up if you can - they're sure to last you and be very handy too.
I dislike plastic carrier bags immensely. They are an appalling invention in so many ways; they are likely to split and send your shopping flying in all directions, they take hundreds of years to degrade (maybe longer, plastic is such a relatively new invention who knows what surprises it has for us and our descendants in the future?) and I personally find carrier bags to be highly uncomfortable to carry either on my wrist or in my hands. For this reason I buy shopping bags, these days there is an impressive selection a available so I am not loyal to any one brand or type - the ones I tend to avoid being the long handled cotton 'shoppers' which are so popular amongst the younger ladies. I came across the Fizbag on Amazon and was initially attracted by the design, but my purchasing decision was based on the fact that the bag would fold down to a very small size BUT was very large once opened. I paid around £4.50 for this bag six months ago and have been highly impressed with it. It folds easily and to surprisingly small dimensions, once folded the bag will fit easily into my pocket and it is a very simple job to unfold it again once I am in the supermarket and ready to start packing my shopping. The bag I chose has a small busy rose print, very similar to a Cath Kidson design and extremely attractive - especially in comparison to the truly vile designs of supermarket carrier bags. After all, we are not paid to advertise Tesco, Sainsbury's and the like so why should we walk around with their logo emblazoned bags? Once opened the bag is extremely spacious; when ordering I noticed the claim that two of these bags would hold a weekly shop for four people, and while this may be a little optimistic I can pack quite a lot into the single bag I own. Working on the basis that each bag will hold shopping for two people, I doubt my daughter would be able to get her immense weekly shop (for six people) into three of the bags. The angular nature of the bag means items can be stacked easily so there is less chance of wasted space, carrier bags are almost impossible to pack to make use of the space inside so it is a relief to be able to fit a large amount of shopping into this one bag and not have so much as a molecule of air between the products. The only thing you need to watch out for with such a large shopping bag is that you do not pack it so well that the bag is too heavy to lift afterwards, something I foolishly did in Sainsbury's recently and had to unpack and use some of their awful orange carrier bags to put the remainder of my shopping in. The Fizbag is exceedingly strong, a fact that was borne out when my son in law borrowed it last weekend to transport twenty four cans of beer to a party - although he was a little put out by the very floral design of the bag! The sides support themselves so it will never become 'floppy' or shapeless, in fact I can envisage many years of happy use. The handles are also very strong and stitched well into the fabric of the bag itself. They are long enough to be worn over the shoulder, although personally I find the Fizbag to be more comfortable when carried in my hands. They are wide and soft handles which means they do not twist or dig into my skin whilst being carried as usually happens with free plastic bags. The handles are also very useful for securing the bag to the basket on my mobility scooter as they are long and supple enough to be twisted around the baggage handle. I cannot recommend the Fizbag highly enough; the size and flexibility of the bag is extremely impressive, while it remains such an attractive bag that I even used it as an overnight bag recently when I went to a local hotel fir an asthma conference - and no, I didn't feel out of place using this bag instead of a suitcase and a couple of people even asked where I had bought it from, one thinking it was indeed a Kidson product. Despite being used numerous times in an average week, the Fizbag remains in beautiful condition. The exterior has a wipe clean finish and repels dirt excellently, I had a problem last week when a large carton of orange juice burst and emptied itself into the bag but a short cool cycle in my washing machine removed all traces and did not damage the bag at all. I am unsure if this is suitable for machine washing as it is not mentioned on the label, so before risking it I'd suggest you check somehow - although on a short cycle without spinning mine was absolutely fine.
The whole point of a reusable bag is to reuse it, but so many eco-bags are lumpy and unwieldy and just not practical to carry around on a daily basis. As we know, they end up piling up in the boot of a car or stuffed in a cupboard at home and never actually make it on the shopping trip. Some of them are, let's face it, a bit "knit your own muesli" and holier-than-thou hessian, whereas others advertise supermarkets (which you might not want to do). The bonus with Fizbags is not only their unique patterns and designs, but most importantly they are easy to keep with you at all times. They are so small and compact yet strong and durable enough to be practical that you can have them with you every day, and hardly notice they are there at all. The shopper folds down to be small enough to fit in your handbag, or anorak pocket. Shoe Heaven is the version I chose, as it will go with anything. Although it would be great to fill with (vegan) shoes, you can use the shopper for groceries, days out, and holidays, and it costs under £5.00
