I only buy two brands of handbag/day bag, Radley and Kipling. I have two Kipling bags in total and love them - they are casual, yet stylish, very well made, well thought out and long lasting.
Kipling was founded in 1987 in Antwerp by three friends and the Kipling name was inspired by Rudyard Kipling, the author of "The Jungle Book". Kipling originally made backpacks, but has expanded from its origins to produce holds, day bags and handbags. Today Kipling sells over 6 million bags a year in over 60 countries!
~My Kipling Tote Bag~
The bag itself is lightweight, made out of a strong crinkle nylon material which is waterproof. The bag's dimensions are 58 x 38.5 x 21 cm and has a capacity of 20 litres so it's quite big and great as a day bag for a day out with the kids. There is a wide zipped main compartment with double zip on each side which also gives the bag 2 shapes - rectangular and triangular. There is an internal zipped pocket and a small zipped pocket on the front which is handy for easy access. The design is well thought out with just enough pockets all in the right places.
Yes Kipling is there, hanging off the side of my bag. For those of you who don't know this is a furry monkey keyring which is the Kipling mascot. My kids love playing with the monkey, as it can either suck it's thumb or hold its hands together.
~Carrying and Usage~
It has two "grab" handles with are quite long, although not really long enough to get them over the shoulder. The handles have padded grips and are easy to hold, although I usually put the bag in the basket under the pushchair rather than carry it around.
I can fit a change of clothes for each of my two children, plus wet wipes, nappies when we needed them a couple of bottles of water and perhaps a small toy in easily. It is therefore big enough for everything I need on a day out. I like that it is a soft material and can be squashed into small spaces, like under the pushchair and when it's pulled out it pops back to it's original shape without gaining any creases.
~Wear and Tear~
This bag is about 18 months old and still going strong. I have a dark blue one so it doesn't show the dirt, but when food has got on it I have just wet wiped it clean. My other Kipling bag, which is a handbag is about 6 years old and still going strong, although I don't use it so much now, usually just when we go on holiday.
~Cost and Colour~
It was a present from my husband, but I think they are usually around £80. I expect he must have he got it for less though as I can't imagine him spending £80 on a bag! I strongly suspect he got it in the outlet village at Bicester. These medium tote bags also come in different colours, I have seen people carrying red and black ones around.
Kipling products are available in a range of high street stores such as John Lewis, as well as Kipling only shops - I know of two in London, one on Regent street and the other in Kensington near Harrods. If you are ever in Bicester Village there is a very good Kipling outlet store there, with last seasons bags and colours at discount prices. This is where I bought my first Kipling handbag and also a handbag as a present for my mother, which she loves and uses all the time.
I love this bag as it does everything I need and more whilst being practical and looking stylish. It's very hard wearing and therefore I feel it is good value for money as I expect to be using it for many years ahead.
Carries up to 20 litres.
