Advantages: Easy to arrange

Disadvantages: Can you get through?, Low valuables cover

I've had a Boots multi-trip policy for a couple of years. It was extremely easy to arrange. In fact I did it all over the phone at Gatwick just before the holiday I was insuring.

However, I find it a telling indication of the policies quality that, finally needing to use their emergency number (which is not free) I was placed on hold for 5 minutes by a computer and then cut off. This happened twice before I tried the only other number I had... The Boots sales number. Surprise surprise I was through to an operator in about 5 seconds!

Also beware, the £1500 personnal items cover is limited to £400 of valuables and has a £250 single item limit. The uninformed and uninterested operator couldn't give me an exact description of what is or isn't valuable. Perhaps I'll just trust in the clean and caring reputationof Boots Plc.?....

Not so sure your judgement is right on one aspect - Boots may not offer enough cover for your possessions - BUT their limit is one of the higher available. Sounds like you may have found someone else - who might that be please?

Travel Insurers tend to take the view that anything above a certain value should be more specifically insured. That way most folks who don't take high value items on trips are not subsidising those who do in their premiums. Seems fair enough.

But you are right that people should be wary what is covered. The only place to check that straight is the policy wording.

Always check what you're covered for before you buy insurance!

You could well be covered for personal possessions on your home contents policy (or that of your parents).

Halifa x knocked 20% off the premium because of this!
