Advantages: Cheap, providing nothing goes wrong.
Disadvantages: High excess, don't combine medical assistance to be one claim
However much you want to save money when it comes to having the holiday you look forward to all year round, get the insurance right and you won't regret it.
We took out an insurance policy this year to go for a summer holiday. Budget insurance came out ridiculously cheap, so we didn't hesitate to take up the policy.
As always, the small print says it all, you get what you pay for.
My partner was experiencing severe headaches and dehydration, so we went to the local medical centre and was seen to straight away.
We were advised that insurance companies often pay up front to cover these fee's, but no, not budget insurance!
Next we discovered that there was a £75 excess! The treatment only cost £50 (which we had to visit twice) and Budget insurance took it as two separate claims, therefore both being under the excess.
So ended up £100 out of pocket, plus the lousy expense in the first place for the insurance policy. if only we had paid a little extra for a decent service.
Summary: Pretty crap, would have been good if nothing went wrong :(

- 01/11/08 I do agree that treating the two visits as two separate claims as a bit harsh. Other than that though, the excess itself is not something I would find myself complaining about. I really want my travel insurance in case there are major medical problems. Sorry for my rating, but you haven't told me that much about the policy, not even the premium. |
