Advantages: Not to sure really, Big name backing maybe
Disadvantages: Not online buy, Poor presentation, Too expensive
I am confused - I went to the Cahoot website believing it would offer a good easy to use online travel insurance. As it turned out, there are some fundamental things to put straight immediately:- - you cannot buy online but over the phone - there is a copy of the policy wording available for review but no helpful information - there is not online quote facility - you have to work it out yourself from tables So what is there, is a very similar product to the Abbey National one, underwritten by the same insurance company (which I believe Abbey may have a hand in). I have written a review of the Abbey National product and website - so check that too. Liz comments that Cahoot are owned by Abbey - true and yes I was aware thanks Liz. Despite this tie - the cover and rates are different - which is odd. As for Cahoot - it does appear to be around 10% cheaper than the Abbey National rates but with almost if not the same cover. Does this mean AN think they can charge their unfortunate customers more. Cahoot presents only two links - one to the rates and one to policy wording. The presentation of both leaves a lot to be desired. The site is information ONLY too - if you want to buy you have to pick up the phone and quote "web2". The rates are presented on an seemingly neverending set of tables with all sorts of options, but not an explanantion in sight of what to add or subtract from what - though you can work it out in the end. The policy is hard to read being simply pasted into the web page and offering none of the useful layout clarity that the Abbey national .pdf version offers. There the site stops. I do hope the online banking is a bit more online! In summary - although the cover is reasonable - the prices seem high (but not as bad as travel agents) and I personally will shop elsewhere.

- 05/03/03 Binnie - just so happens I have done a review of Boots too!
Liz - I did realise indeed. I was surpirsed by the price difference and the little tweaks to their cover.
Also, although the Post office is clearly better value than many travel agents' insurance offer - there are many better deals out there. |

- 04/03/03 I am very lucky to get free travel insurance as I work for a Travel Company. Have you tried Boots cover, they are quite competitive. |

- 02/03/03 Sums up my experience of all things Scabby Abbey!
try halifax.co.uk/insurance - I paid £67 for an annual policy for a family of fine with top drawer cover. |
