I've used CGU (formerly General Accident) for travel insurance on quite a few occasions over the past five years. Their premiums are very compeitive (£12.50 for a weeks cover to Europe) and their staff are very helpful.

Although I have no experience of their claims department, having never had to make a claim (yet!), their customer service is excellent. For example on a recent holiday I forgot to take my travel insurance documents with me, and realised at the airport about 30 minutes before boarding that I'd forgotton them. One quick call to CGU meant that my documents were faxed out to my hotel to meet me on arrival, as well as the staff member giving me a note of my policy number and emergency number in case of problems before then. This efficiency is very reassuring - you can be insured within 10 minutes of phoning them!

The levels of cover offered by CGU are very comprehensive - one thing with some cheap travel insurance companies is that they skimp on some important elements of cover, to cut the cost - but not CGU - with a high level of baggage cover, delay cover etc, they offer great value for money.

All of this, topped by a freephone quotes line (see Yellow Pages for details), makes CGU very good value.
