Advantages: cheap, reliable

Disadvantages: none yet

Last week I booked a holiday over the internet, it is for one week to Lanzarote in June.
I booked the apartment over the internet but I booked my flights with a travel agent because I wanted transfers from my house to the airport included.
I didn't take their holiday insurance as it would have cost £16 each, I know that's not too bad coming from a travel agent but I knew I would get cheaper if I tried.

I found the site on the internet for direct travel insurance and quickly found out that it would only cost £9.50 per adult.
It covers me and my husband for 8 days travel.
This company is in partnership with Norwich Union, commercial union and General Accident, so they are well known names to trust.

We will be covered if we lose our money up to the value of £500,or if anyone steals it from us.
There is an excess of £50 that's if you haven't took out extra cover to cancel any excess.
This is only for whilst you are travelling, which probably means whilst you are flying or making your way to the holiday destination.
If you have more than £150 on you at once , I don't really understand this , but I presume it means whilst having a day out.
You have to produce receipts for any money cashed and stolen or lost,

If you get your passport stolen or lose it you get up to £200 towards the cost of replacing it.

It covers you for personal accident ,you can't claim though if you are riding a motorcycle over 125cc unless the rider holds a valid licence for the bike. Be careful when riding one of these as loads of accidents occur whilst abroad , try and wear a helmet.

If you have a flight delay you will get £10 back after the first 12 hours of delay.

There are more things covered but you can read them on the website.

Once I had decided on the insurance, I got out my credit card (ipoints of course)it takes you to a secure server where you enter your card details.
I
t odesn't take long, straight after that I got an email saying thankyou for buying their insurance and to watch out for the deatails in the post.

You can print the details off if you want, they send you confirmation with everything on that you have purchased.

Within the next two days I had the info to hand, they send you a printed Policy Schedule with the insured names on and the costing.
There is also a booklet saying the things you make a claim on.

I will be using this quick and efficient service again.

Seems like we have something else in common! I too would recommend their insurance company. The annual premium for Europe is around £29.

Good and useful op, Binnie. I'll check them out myself next time.
