Advantages: Comprehensive, cheap and flexible Winter Sports cover!

What my husband failed to mention in his review on Whistler was his nasty run in with a tree on the third day of our holiday!

I naturally dreaded the worst, as at 63 he’s getting on a bit and our experience in the past with the kids in foreign hospitals has been horrendous! Remarkably, the whole affair was quite painless for everyone, except Neil of course. The ski rescue team picked him up, popped him into an ambulance at the bottom of the mountain, and whipped him off to the local Hospital. I made a call to our newly acquired insurance provider (Essential Travel) and they looked after everything! Neil had broken his arm in 2 places, but was back on his feet the next day and having a good laugh over the whole incident in the bar later that evening.

We never used to bother with Winter Sports Cover until last year when I was made aware of the risks we were taking, and the cheap prices out there:

- 1 in 5 has a minor accident leading to a claim whilst skiing, and average claim whilst skiing is around £750!
- an injury resulting in recovery from the piste without ski insurance cover will cost a minimum of 3K, and could rise over 10K if an airlift is required!

- basic insurance starts at £6.99 and Winter Sports cover starts at £17.99, both for a week in Europe.

With my two crazy sons hurling themselves of jumps, and old age rapidly creeping up on myself and Neil we decided the risks were to high and eventually chose Essential Travel. Setting it up online was quick and easy and exceptionally good value considering there are four of us. Being insured has not only saved us financially, but I now feel safe in the knowledge that all of our backs are covered when ever we go abroad.
