Advantages: they got me home

Disadvantages: predudiced against granparents

For our first holiday abroad for 5 years since we had got married, we took along our 18 month old son and booked a 2 week holiday to Rhodes. The holday was going great but on the 6th day I got some really bad news when we phoned home. I found out that my Gramdna had died. She had only lived at the back of me and I was very close to her.

I had to get back for the funeral as it couldn't have waited until we got back. The rep sorted everything out and the insurance paid to get us early flights home, that all went smoothly. Our insurance was with Lunn Polly which had been recommended to us. After we got back and got the funeral over with, I went to Lunn polly and they told us to put in a claim for refund for what we lost on our holiday. We were told that you can claim on your insurance for what you lost on your holiday if a family member dies.

We put in the claim but were later told we would get nothing back as the claim doesn't cover grandparaents. I was furious. Is this because grandparents are older and more likely to die? Reading the small print it stated that they would pay out for for the death of mother, father, sister, brother, step sister, stepbrother, and CLOSE BUSINESS ASSOCIATE. I thought 'No way! This is not fair, why would a business assocaite get paid out if they die' (I mean an assocaite of thiers) ??, when I am sure that grandparents are closer than this, it did not seem fair at all.

I took it further but the insurance company said if we carry on we would have to pay in full the costs of 3 flights they paid for to get us home, so I had to drop it.

It certainly opened my eyes though and I said I would never get their insurance again.
