Introduction
I opened a Current Account (Flex Account) with Nationwide Building Society in January 2007 when I started my previous job. In this review, I will report about the good service that I have received from them in the last 5 years.
Comprehensive Range of Products
Nationwide offer a wide of financial products to offer. Currently I have a Current account, Instant Access ISA and Cash Builder Card Account with Nationwide Building Society. I have also opened a Child Trust Fund for my daughter in 2009. I am very happy that I opened these products with Nationwide Building Society and if I could go back in time I would only choose Nationwide again. Other financial products offered by Nationwide include a wide range of Mortgages, Investments, Loans, Credit Cards, Insurance etc.
My Current Account
I opened my current account (called Flex Account by Nationwide) in January 2007 by visiting the branch. I am very happy with the service they have provided mainly because there is no monthly fee. Nationwide building society have also started to offer free European travel insurance (multi-trip European Cover) to their active current account customers. I was very appreciative of this because I was planning to travel to Europe this year and now I don't have to take out travel insurance! I have never had an overdraft but if you require one and Nationwide agree on it the interest rate they charge you is 18.9% EAR (variable) for an overdraft of £1200.
Quality of Customer Service at Nationwide Building Society
The quality of Customer Service at Nationwide Building Society is very good at my local branch in Holborn. Whenever I visit the branch, the staff are very friendly and are always ready to help out with queries that I have. An example of this is when I visited the branch last May to open an ISA Account. As I walked into the branch, I was greeted by the receptionist and I told her I was there to open an ISA account. I was told to wait in the waiting area, which consisted of comfy sofa's. I had my daughter with me and there were also toys in the waiting area for her to play with. I waited for ten minutes before I was seen by a customer service representative. Another member of staff gave me a cup of coffee while I waited. I would say that ten minutes is a reasonable amount of waiting time considering that I have previously waited at Barclays for an hour and a half and sometimes even longer than that. The customer service representative then presented a leaflet and we discussed the various type of ISA's that they have. I chose the Instant Access ISA, as I wanted to be able to withdraw cash at any time, incise I needed it. The interest rate of the account was 0.25% and I opened the account with £100. I was presented with an Individual Savings Accounts Pass Book on which your account balance is printed on and updated when you visit the branch.
Online Banking
The online banking system for Nationwide Building Society is very good and secure. You have to register for online banking online and they will send your pass number and password in the post. To access online banking you have to enter random requested digits from your pass number and enter your memorable data. The fact that you have to login with information, that is a personal password and a password received in the post, makes it very secure to login. You can also choose to login with the aid of a card reader. The card reader is sent in the post by nationwide and looks like a little blue calculator. To login to internet banking you have to insert you card into the card reader and enter online the random numbers produced by the card reader. You can only transfer money from your account online with the aid of the card reader. I think this is also a good idea when compared with HSBC online banking. With HSBC there is no card reader and you can transfer by just entering the recipient account details. However with Nationwide you can only transfer money by using the card reader and this makes the process more secure. However the card reader may not always be available at times!
The organisation of the site is excellent. When I log in under one pass number, I am able to view all the accounts that I have including the Cash Builder Card. The site is very reliable and I have never faced problems where I am not able to access the site. It also quite straightforward to apply for financial products using the online banking system and you just fill in the online form in the same way that you would fill out any form online and click next and submit.
Conclusion
Overall, I would say Nationwide Building Society treats their customers really well and I will continue to trust them with my finances.
I hope you enjoyed reading my review. I have also posted this review on Ciao under my same username Angela150.
