Advantages: Excellent value, No claims discount, Reliable
Disadvantages: None
I first discovered Options when I was a student, when every penny counts so I liked the low cost of Options' policies. I was a little sceptical because of the low cost, but on checking the small print I was pleased to discover that they give all the usual cover with some very high limits for example £10m on health care. Most of the time you don't actually have to claim on travel insurance so you can't really judge the standard very easily. So having not claimed and still impressed by the low cost, I went back to them for my next holiday. It was then that I discovered the gem that Options offers...a no-claim discount! It's a fantastic idea and I don't know why more companies don't offer it. You get a discount on your car insurance if you don't claim so why not travel insurance? The discount is a flat rate 10% so you can't build up 5-years protected no-claims or anything like that, but 10% is not to be sneezed at, especially as their prices are low in the first place. A two week trip to Europe is about £14, and I've reccently bought their annual multi-trip cover which was £37 including ski cover. Not bad you must agree. Now the test of an insurance company is when you come to claim. I broke my camera while away on holiday a couple of years ago. When I got home I phoned them and they sent me a claim form which arrived the next day. I filled it in and had to get a confirmation from a 'recognised camera repairer' that it was broken, and they sent me my money within the month. It was very painless, the only thing I didn't like was that they knock about 15% off the value of an item if it's over 2 years old. I think this is fairly standard in insurance policies if you check the small print. Anyway, I lost my no-claims for the next trip, but I've got it back again (it only takes one trip) and am still using them. I've used them for the last 4 years and all of my family and friends use them
too, they're great. You can either book over the phone and they post the policy and you get it the next day (I've never been let down by them). Or you can book on the internet at http://www.optionsinsurance.co.uk, the policy is cheaper on the internet but you don't get your no claims bonus, swings and roundabouts. If you're planning on going away, check them out, you won't be disappointed.

- 01/02/02 How unusual for claiming to be so relatively easy! Sounds like you are on to a good thing there. |
