Advantages: Very efficient, easy to arrange, adequate compensation.

Disadvantages: I thought it was perhaps a little pricey.

I want to say from the onset that I did not make a claim on my insurance, I survived my recent trip to the USA without needing theft compensation or medical fees and thereforethis review will cover the experience I had with obtaining the insurance, and the efficiency of the service. I must admit that from other reviews I have read on various websites, the Post Office have a reputation for being uninclined to quibble unfairly over claims, and accept that sometimes people do have the right to claim money. I would not be worried about them refusing to pay out if you genuinely need it, unlike with other companies like Tesco Insurance - but that's for another review.

I arranged my Post Office Travel Insurance online through the post office website. The website was very easy to navigate, and the questions asked were at all times relevant and simply to answer. I did think that the insurance was a little bit expensive, at £46 for a 6 day trip, but it was always going to be worth getting when you consider that the average air ambulance from the USA may cost £50,000 and an overnight stay in hospital can quickly turn into a multi thousand dollar bill.

Within only a day or two, I recieved my envelope by post detailing my policy details and a list of everything I was covered for. Some of the things that I was covered for included Medical Emergencies for up to £10,000,000, missed departure for up to £5,000, Personal Money for up to £500, Loss of Passport for up to £250 and smaller things like "Mugging" which offered compensation of up to £50. The excess on most things was free of charge, although on some things like medical emergencies, it is listed as £50.

If you are going to be taking part in more unusual or adventurous holidays, then for additional cost you can be covered for things like Winter Sports Equipment for up to £700, or you might get £150 if there is an avalanche or landslide.

I was very pleased with the post office insurance in terms of it's simpleness to arrange, and it's easy to understand comprehensive cover, and I would definately take out a policy again with the Post Office in the future.

Summary: Worth having.
