Disadvantages: I'll tell you if it goes the way of all pears

I have a spinal stenosis, and my husband has heart disease and, as we're both pensioners, were were finding it almost impossible to get cover for travel in Europe. We were either quoted ridiculous premiums (£ 150 each in one case) or refused cover on the grounds of 'pre-existing medical conditions which might necessitate repatriation'.

We eventually got quotes from Tesco for under £30 each. There was no lengthy medical exam or reports from specialists, no silly questions and it was all arranged over the 'phone. All the underwriters wanted to know, was whther our conditions had changed at all in the last year (in frequency or severity) and whether we had seen a specialist recently (yes, in my case, which bumped up the premium).

I do not know how good this company is to deal with if you actually have to make a claim, but why should you pay more or be refused cover for your handbag being stolen because you have a bad back?
