We don't have a very big back garden but it is quite a decent size. In the last year or so my husband has built a section in the garden for our dog Eddie. Its a fenced off area so he can go in and do his business and we do not have to worry about the kids playing in the garden and coming across a random bit of poo that we have forgotten to pick up. This is a great situation for both Eddie and us as we have a nice clean garden but it did cause quite a problem when it came to cutting the lawn. My husband has one of those big petrol mowers that makes a lot of noise and is really big and frankly quite scary so I don't ever use it. It cuts the grass really nicely but where he had built the run for Eddie it could not get right up to the borders to cut the grass and so we were left with a border of quite long grass around this area which is why we decided to buy a strimmer to take care of these bits.
As we don't have a power supply close by which is why we have a petrol mower and are not able to plug anything in we needed the strimmer to be cordless so we could just use it by itself. We looked around online and in various stores and eventually came across this Black and Decker. I know Black and Decker have a good name in power tools and things like that so to be honest we went with a name thinking it would be good and we have been pleased with this strimmer.
More often than not it is me who does the strimming as my husband cuts the grass when he gets home from work then I have the rest of the next day to tidy up the garden and strim the edges around Eddie's run. I needed the strimmer to be fairly lightweight so I could hold it and I also wanted one as I didn't want to have to stoop down and cut the grass with just a regular pair of shears which I know would probably ruin my back. I find this strimmer really easy to hold as its quite lightweight although after using it to do all of the garden my arms do feel quite heavy and I need to rest but I think this has more to do with the fact that I have been holding something up and working with it for 10 minutes or so than the machine being too heavy. The stammer has a handle on the end of the pole which you can link on hand around and then there is another handle about a third of the way down which you can grab onto with the other hand and this gives you balance and manoeuvrability in order to get to the blades of grass that you need to cut. As you are holding it like this you just need to press the on/off button on the handle and then start strimming. I have been pleased with the level of cutting I get with this strimmer, the blades of grass around the run are cut almost to the ground. The strimmer has a 25cm cutting width so you can really get into the bits where your regular mower can't.
The manual is quite easy to read and makes sense, even for someone who doesn't know much about these things, meaning me! The manual says that the battery will last for 50 minutes of continuous use. I have never used it for that long in one go, my garden is just not big enough. I think the most I have used it for is about 10 to 20 minutes in one go and the battery lasts that whole time and lasts well and never starts to go slow or anything like that.
We bought this strimmer for £50 which I thought was a really good price. We only use it for our edges and so I didn't want to spend a lot of money but it has been very handy and works well and leaves my garden looking neat and tidy.
