==Black and Decker GT 100 Hedge Trimmer==
I wasn't surprised at how many items we need when moving from our flat to our new house. There is so much to buy that is needed and nothing seems to be overly cheap. This hedge trimmer was something that we really did need seeing as we have a ton of fences which are our responsibility and these have a whole host of climbing plants on them weighing them down. The wind was shaking the fences and it was only a matter of time before the weight of the plants bought the fence tumbling over. So with this in mind we decided that a small spend on a hedge trimmer to rid the fence of a lot of its weight would be a much better idea than having to fix or replace the fence panels that would have been damaged.
I had a little hunt around for this item and looked on various internet sites as well as local independent and chain stores that sell this sort of item. I tried to find reviews on items and was more or less sold on a completely different model when I saw an ad in the local free paper for this particular item which they were selling in a more or less new condition with both the box and instructions for less than half the RRP. Given how much we are trying to save the pennies I thought buying a second hand one was far better than buying a new one.
This item is probably one of those that you use every once in a while and to spend the £40 that was the RRP seemed rather steep when we were going to be chopping the majority of the hedge away on the first use and therefore would probably not need to use it again this year! The price of £40 though is not too bad considering the cost of some others which do the same job but perhaps are more high tech.
This Black and Decker GT 100 is really good however and even though I initially thought it was going to be a job for "the man" of the house I was surprised at how easy to use it was and of course I got stuck in myself. The machine is relatively light weight and this really did surprised me and didn't ache my arms too much even after cutting the hedge for a while. The blades are sharp and the blade arm long enough to slice through our thick wide hedge with relative ease. The blades look pretty nasty and I was super careful when using it as I can be rather clumsy. The blades seem to slide both ways with the top layer going one way and the bottom layer going the other. This means that it can cut through thicker branches quickly and efficiently making the task a rather enjoyable one.
The machine itself is easy to use and has a two button safety system when you need to push in the underneath button on the handle and then the button on the side to turn the machine on and as soon as one button is released the hedge trimmer will cut out so it seems pretty safe. It is also a lot quieter than I thought it would be especially given the size of the blades. The blades move fast but this doesn't make too many vibrations in my arms and I feel comfortable holding it.
The only downside I found was that the power cord was only a couple of meters which wasn't at all long enough and a very long extension lead was needed in order to cut the hedge at the front and side of the house.
So all in all I have to say that I am really pleased with this item. I am glad we bought it second hand as for the amount of time I think we will need to use it we have certainly saved ourselves a few good pennies. However I don't think I would be at all disappointed had I bought it brand new and paid the full recommended retail price for it. It is lightweight and easy for a dainty female such as me to use (lol). It is not so noisy that you couldn't hear when your cuppa is ready and waiting and it doesn't vibrate that much so your shaking when picking said cuppa up after doing the hedge. It cuts through thick busy hedges with easy and the safety of the unit is very pleasing. I think even the one downside of the short power cable I wouldn't be marking this product down at all and I am more than happy to award it a top score of 5 out of 5 stars and give it a high recommendation!
I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you
