“ Brand: JMB - Fuel: Electric „
UPDATE...................WARNING...... After only a few weeks of use, about six times. I'm afraid to say that the motor burnt out in a puff of smoke. I was only strimming a small area of garden, Which was not that bad. It should have been a piece of cake for a strimmer. My last one lasted over 10 years doing the same jobs. I also noticed that the auto feed was to easy to activate while using strimmer wasting cord. I'm sad to say we will be sending this one back and not ordering another. Although it started well it got worse over a short time, I would no longer recommend this strimmer. My old strimmer has finally worn out the bearings after ten years and now sounds like an MOT failure with a blown engine. So it was time for a new one. We chose the JMB GT-250-300, No that's not a high speed motorbike its a twin spool self adjusting trimmer. This trimmer is a bit bigger and heavier than my old Black and Decker but does not feel as steady or as solid. A small amount of assembly was needed, The foot/strimmer guard and a steadying handle which fits on about half way down the stem. The self adjusting spool works by pushing it down on the ground and turning it on for a second. Wire is released and the excess cut off by a blade on the guard. These wires can sometimes break inside the spool housing, This means cutting the power and disassembling the spool. Not always easy. It was a pain with my single spool Black and Decker, You need two pairs of hands. So avoid those stones. My biggest problem is the cable, Can someone tell me why you only get 6 meters of cord. I had to use 2 extension cables, Both of which were being used elsewhere. Do the same companies that make trimmers also make extension cables? And want you to buy both.?. The trimmer does a decent job and is easy to use, Then they don't really do that much. The guard may be a little bit to big as it seems to get in the way sometimes.
When going around posts and plants. . You can twist the steadying handle around so you can turn the trimmer over and do the edges of the lawn as well. For £20 this was quite cheap so I suppose I can put up with a few little niggles Specifications:= Power input.....250 watts cutting diameter.....30cm. weight.....2.25kg cutting line length.....5 meters plus spare
The JMB Grass Trimmer Model GT-250-300 from Index is a far superior trimmer to the Black and Decker one I've previously used. It weighs 2.25kg which fractionally more than the B&D but it comes with its own built in cable. There is a secondary handle on this machine that makes it so much easier to hold and manouvre. If you have used a 'Strimmer' you will know what I mean when I say that the vibration makes it difficult to handle for a long period of time. There is a safety guard to stop you getting hit by the nylon line and a safety switch which requires you to hold an orange button in while using the machine. I did find that I could manage this quite easily even though I'm left handed. Some machines have a safety button on the left hand side and a left hander can't press it with their thumb! The nylon line is a twin one which makes this trimmer far superior at cutting. You also get a spare reel of line. There is a two year manufacturer's guarantee on this tool and you also get a one year Index guarantee, giving three years in all. The general construction of the JMB trimmer is very sturdy. The shaft is made of metal and both handles allow you to get a good firm grip. The instructions are easy to read and understand and include advice on safety precautions. The most obvious thing here is to protect your eyes from the flying bits of grass and other vegetation. I would also recomend that you wear strong shoes to prevent the danger of accidently catching your toes with the line. I was very impressed with the quality and performance of this trimmer. The twin cutting line really makes a difference. The price was something of a suprise too. It cost me £16.99 which is around £4 cheaper than the B&D equivalent. £4 less for better quality and performance has to be a bargain.
30mm cutting diameter. 5-metre cutting line. Adjustable front handle. Metal shaft. 6-metre cable. 2-year guarantee.
