Advantages: sturdy, twin line, efficient
Disadvantages: none
The JMB Grass Trimmer Model GT-250-300 from Index is a far superior trimmer to the Black and Decker one I've previously used. It weighs 2.25kg which fractionally more than the B&D but it comes with its own built in cable. There is a secondary handle on this machine that makes it so much easier to hold and manouvre. If you have used a 'Strimmer' you will know what I mean when I say that the vibration makes it difficult to handle for a long period of time. There is a safety guard to stop you getting hit by the nylon line and a safety switch which requires you to hold an orange button in while using the machine. I did find that I could manage this quite easily even though I'm left handed. Some machines have a safety button on the left hand side and a left hander can't press it with their thumb! The nylon line is a twin one which makes this trimmer far superior at cutting. You also get a spare reel of line. There is a two year manufacturer's guarantee on this tool and you also get a one year Index guarantee, giving three years in all. The general construction of the JMB trimmer is very sturdy. The shaft is made of metal and both handles allow you to get a good firm grip. The instructions are easy to read and understand and include advice on safety precautions. The most obvious thing here is to protect your eyes from the flying bits of grass and other vegetation. I would also recomend that you wear strong shoes to prevent the danger of accidently catching your toes with the line. I was very impressed with the quality and performance of this trimmer. The twin cutting line really makes a difference. The price was something of a suprise too. It cost me £16.99 which is around £4 cheaper than the B&D equivalent. £4 less for better quality and performance has to be a bargain.

- 12/05/01 I've got a Flymo strimmer which I am not impressed with. The nylon cord breaks every few minutes and it is very fiddly to get more out. Good op. |
