Joby GorillaPod Magnetic Tripod
Advantages: Fully bendable, twistable, stickable....
Disadvantages: can sometimes be awkward for getting perfect pictures.
I have wanted a tripod for a while now, I'm not a dedicated photographer but i am very into taking pictures of my kids and family, i love to capture all get togethers, after all you never know how long you have left with loved ones so i like to have memories in picture form wherever possible, before buying this tripod there was always somebody left out of the picture, usually me!! Not anymore!!!
I purchased this tripod from amazon and got it at the bargain price of 16 pound! It arrived the day after ordering and came in a small box within the huge amazon box already assembled, great for me as i can get very impatient when having to build things i buy!
Its made of plastic and magnets and is small and very light weight (0.1lb) so can be kept in a bag and carried around with ease, it can be used on a flat surface as a normal tripod or you can stick it to anything metal with the magnetic feet, they are made with neodymium magnets which are very powerful so as to hold any camera or video camera up to a weight of 375g (0.72lb) . Although my camera weighs more than this (about 3lb) and it holds it up just fine! My camera isn't hugely expensive so i don't mind risking it, if your camera is expensive and weighs more than the recommended maximum weight i wouldn't take the chance to be honest. The segmented legs can be bent, twisted and turned however you please in order to capture the perfect picture, all segments rotate full 360 degrees.
I have stuck this tripod to almost every metal surface in my house that it will stick to, just out of curiosity....I am like a kid at christmas with new gadgets and gizmos! It easily sticks to door hinges, fridges, the grills on a fire place (DO NOT DO THIS WITH THE FIRE ON!!!!!), no matter how tiny the sliver of metal is it doesn't seem to have a problem sticking!
If you have twisted the tripod beyond recognition to attach it to a surface it can be a little frustrating to get the camera in a good position for taking a picture, I can be quite OCD so a slightly wonky picture would drive me up the wall, it is possible after a little jiggling around so it's not great if a picture needs taking asap.
Now i just need a big family gathering so i can finally get a great picture without somebody being left out of the picture or having to rearrange the venues furniture to get the camera high enough for a full panaramic shot of everybody (i have been known to stack tables and sit somebody on the top for a good picture!) Now i just need to stick the tripod up there! It really is a little piece of genius!
All in all i am extremely impressed with this tripod, it does the job for me perfectly. Except for the little amount of jiggling i sometimes have to do but that's by the by.
Summary: Great tripod, great price, very clever design!
