Konig Mini Table Top Tripod
Advantages: Cheap, well made, small
Disadvantages: None at all
When I purchased a digital camera, I never considered purchasing a tripod, as I prefer to just point and click. No, it was only when I purchased a handheld video camera that I realised that for the best results I'd need a tripod. I didn't want a large tripod, as I only wanted to ensure that long shots and panoramic scan type shots were smooth, as I purchased the video camera for my honeymoon and I wanted to be able to show my family the places we visited on our cruise, so it was essential it had to be a small tripod.
So I was pleased to find for only £5 the Konig Mini Table Top Tripod from Amazon - the price has now fallen even further to £3.60 with free delivery which is excellent.
As it's so small, I was easily able to pop it into a regular sized handbag or beach bag, and it took hardly any room in my luggage. I have used it many times since, and members of my family have too, it has paid for itself in it's results over and over again.
As suggested in the title the tripod is small, and is adjustable to different heights with it's three aerial style legs. I usually have it at around 10cm high as that's all I need. As each leg is adjustable independently, this means the tripod can provide a stable and sturdy stand for my video camera on even the roughest of walls, rocks, grass and so on. The tripod has a universal connector, a small threaded stick which is compatible with most cameras both still and video. As it's a stainless steel finish, it looks modern and sleek, and can be used outside without worry of rust or tarnishing. The feet are a soft black plastic / rubber which provides a good non-slip base for which the legs to stand on.
In terms of support, it certainly holds my video camera well (it weighs about 1.5lbs) and provides an excellent, smooth pan. The only thing missing on this mini tripod as opposed to a full sized tripod is a handle, this would have made pan and tilt a lot easier, but as I suspect it is primarily made for digital camera users, I can understand it's omission. It's still very very handy for me, and I used it a lot on my honeymoon, with excellent results - from slow sweeps over Italian beaches to static shots of myself and my husband, I was never disappointed. And of course, as it's a universal fitting, I was able to also use it with my Nikon Coolpix digital camera - meaning that I got double the usage of it, and again have some spectacular shots of my trip which are a wonderful memento.
For the price, I would highly recommend it to any camera user no matter how infrequent. It really is an essential bit of kit and you will be so pleased with the near professional quality shots you can make with the aid of the tripod. Finally, no more asking a stranger to take a snap of you and your family - you can simply use the auto timer and the tripod to frame and take an excellent shot first time.
Now I've had my first baby, the cameras are back out again, on an almost daily basis. I am again using my tripod to catch some great pictures and video of my daughter AND me - even when no-one else is around - and I can enjoy being with her, rather than being on the other side of a viewfinder. I have lost count of the times the tripod has been used, and if I were ever to be without it, I would buy another without question. I have already gifted one to my father in law for use with his camera after he admired mine.
I can't give the Konig Mini Table Top Tripod any other rating than five stars out of five. It might not be professional kit for David Bailey wannabes, but for us everyday snappers and filmers, it's a fantastic, well made and reliable bit of kit at an amazing price, with results that speak for themselves.
