I've used this tripod over the past year on many photographic assignments, including taking it into a cave.
I've found it be a great value tripod and haven't had any problems with it. It slightly more basic than the 055XPROB in that the center arm doesn't rotate into a horizontal position. However, I've not found this to be an issue and it is possible to mount the camera upside down by turning the center column upside down.
When I first came across this tripod I felt quite shaky when setting up, and the legs to rattle when they are released. However, once they're locked in place the tripod is amazingly stable.
I chose this particular tripod as it reaches a greater than average height. With everything extended the tripod is slightly taller than I am (average male height) and is quoted as 178cm with the center column up (137.5cm without). It can be lowered to 7cm and is around 61cm when packed up.
I find the weight to be heavy enough to give it stability in winds but light enough to carry for extended periods of time. This tripod does not come with a head so you will need to purchase that separately, adding to the cost. However this does give you more flexibility in what type of head to use.
The legs are slightly awkward to open out as they are relatively stiff, however it's easy to setup in any number of positions and the legs lock at certain angles away from the body. The center column can be completely removed and the head mounted on the top of the tripod using an adapter.
The tripod also comes with a hook to hang ballast from the side and two of legs have rubber grips so it's not as cold to carry - the body does get very cold!
Definitely a tripod to consider with it's added height and stability!
