This is a great beginner head at a very reasonable price.
This head will be great for those of you who want a head to hold larger compacts or small to mid sized DSLR cameras - it can be moved around to face whatever direction you want, tilted sideways allowing you to shoot at an angle or in portrait, or up and down - straight down or part way up, high enough for sky photos.
Operation of the controls is easy and smooth, however not as quick as with ball head tripod heads, due to having to adjust each movement separately, this makes it less ideal for some moving subjects, although fine for those moving across in a fairly straight line.
I'd not recommend one if you were using longer lenses (over around 200mm) or particularly heavy ones on a regular basis, standard length will be fine but these may creep a little.
This head only comes in at a very budget £20 - £30 new, although they are an older model so finding them new may be harder, this makes them very cheap for those just wanting a tripod for light or ocassional use, and so the disadvantages with larger lenses aren't surprising at the price!
Definitely a good beginner head, beyond that like many things, it depends how you want to use it!
I've now had this for a couple of years and it's just not been worth me replacing yet - it really does the job well.
