The Manfrotto 785B tripod is in my opinion perfect for small DSLR's such as the Canon EOS 1000D and smaller compact cameras. I have been using it for about a year now and have got in with it very well as it is perfect for the EOS 1000D that i have been using it with. The tripod has a very intelligent trigger mount that makes it very easy to quickly point the camera wherever you want. The only problem with the mount is that it is not very strong. When you clamp it in place you will always be able to move the camera still. Imagine it like a ball and socket joint on the body, the mount is very manouverable but unfortunately can still move even when you clamp it in place. This aside as long as you are not using a massive lens you will not notice this. To summarise, the tripod is a very versatile, easy to use and carries small cameras perfectly with great results. However its lightness and compactness make it quite weak and therefore not suitable for large devices.
Same as my review on Ciao
Verry good tripod ... without the original ballheadthis tripod is a good choice for hiking or on travel. Its just its head too light and impractical. I have an adapter that allows you to mount any photo ballhead on this tripod : http://pouypouy.blogspot.com/2009/06/how-to-adapt-photo-ballhead-on.html
