Advantages: Price is cheap
Disadvantages: Doesn't really allow for photos from uneven ground
The Velbon DF-50 is a medium sized, 3 section tripod ideal for shooting in most situations.
Strengths:
The tripod is light whilst also being a tough/sturdy item. I found the DF-50 really quite easy to set up and break down again (issues I have noticed with other tripods). Retractable spikes in each of the feet are great for getting extra stability. At full extension the camera level is quite high meaning you wont have to duck to see what you are shooting. This is a great tripod for an amateur with a price tag of around £35 (Jessops) to £50 (Amazon). Also photography students would benefit from the price and ease of use.
Weaknesses:
One major weakness with the design is that the camera head can only be set between 0 and 90 degrees (i.e. landscape to portrait). This is a pretty big issue as this means you will need to shoot on level ground. Another slight issue is that the grip used to cover the mounting screw is hard to tighten.
Overall:
I would recommend to amateurs and students for the price tag and ease of use. However, for more advanced photographers there are better products in the market.
Summary: Ok but better products out there.
