Arcam Alpha 10 ... same less than solid feeling constructions as the other units, but no problems so far. Found that the included ribbon aerial didn't do anything, so connected it up to my existing FM antenna, having purchased a convertor for this. Set it to auto-tune, waited while it scanned, and sat back with bated breath. Thankfully, the sound was excellent! The benefits of DAB won me over instantly. No hiss ever again! The tuner includes a number of display modes for the more technical (not me!). As well as signal quality, you can see the bit-rate and the compression factor. Technics ST-GT1000 ... wall in a t shape. With this I have found that this is not necessarily the best. Mine is not even stretched out to receive optimum reception! The tuning step option brings you the option of block tuning or tuning through 16Khz steps. Although the block tuning is much quicker, it does miss out radio stations. It will pick up the large digital networks such as BBC, and Digital One, but you will need to use the 16Khz tunindg step if you want to pick a lot of stations up. Although this can be a tedious task, it can also be well worth it. Some people only get about 15 stations. On mine I have managed to find about 40 by using the 16Khz steps. Denon TU-260L MKII ... sound budget tuners out there (although the Sony ST SE300 that I have now is just as good). I bought mine at the end of 1999 but I somehow managed to swap my Denon for a brand new Sony (I won’t go into details) in November 2000. It always sounds every alive and active but never sounding harsh and bright like some from the likes of Pioneer. Radio One and other compressed pop stations sound OK but I think it absolutely loves Radio Two because of its great stereo imaging and as you might already know Radio Two has good sound quality anyway plus the fact that it plays some very well recorded tracks.
