Advantages: Cheap, Does its job
Disadvantages: Hard to judge, Cheap build
For christmas when I was younger I got an acoustic guitar...
It never got played for about two years! The main reason to this was because it wasnt tuned! I could never get the hang of tuning it by ear and stupidly enough never even though about getting a guitar tuner! I was only young though so I forgive my stupidity!
Several years later when I got an electric guitar for my birthday I got a guitar tuner along with it. This was infact the QwikTune QT8! This was the first time I had used a guitar and a tuner so I was hoping that it would be simple!
The tuner itself is easy to use. You simply plug a cable into your guitar and the other end to the tuner then press a single button to turn it on.
Once its turned on you simply hit a string to see how you need to tune it. There is a needle which flickers within a tone range which you have to adjust to get it in tune. The needle on the screen seemed to flicker alot and was completely reliable. It sometimes took a long time just to tune a single string as it kept going all over the place!
I managed to use the tuner for about a year until I needed a new one. It broke when it was in my guitar case. It wasnt thrown about anywhere or knocked or even dropped. It was always kept in good condition but all of a sudden just went. I checked batteries and they were fine so it simply just died on me. It did last a year so I wasnt too bothered.
You can pick these up fairly cheap these days if you look in the right places but I wouldnt reccommend getting one second hand as you never know how long it will last! The build itself isnt that great quality either as it feels a very cheap plastic.
Whilst it is a product that does its job I would not get this tuner again. There are plenty more tuners out there just a bit more in price which are definately worth a purchase!
If you are a beginner however who doesnt want to spend too much then its worth a buy. It lasted me a year, maybe it'll last longer for you!
Summary: Fine for a beginner on a budget!
