It's about time the hi-fi makers started providing turntables again as vinyl is making a welcome return. Noticed how the music shops are dedicating more space to records now? Aiwa's deck is bog standard and although sold seperately, is from a ghastly mini system (and although it's not too bad and does the job, it isn't wonderful). There is a pre-amp on board so that it can be used with amps that don't have the required phono stage. Unfortunately, they have put this control on the inside, so it's a case of taking it apart if you don't have the phono input on your amp. Playback isn't perfect but that's down to the ... All domestic turntables (record players, then) are overpriced for what they are and most that are offered for sale seperately are the ones supplied with midi-systems which is a scam as the rule of thumb is that hi-fi seperates are superior to midi's so the makers of these are pulling a fast one over us. Sign of the times... Anyway, onto the turntable. Whilst the choice of turntables these days is getting a bit better, most (including this aiwa deck) are poorly built, lightweight plastic casing which could easily break and I always feel that a bit of weight helps a turntable.
