Advantages: Good value for money, Very sturdy, All the features expensive decks have

Disadvantages: A quirky bit on the pitch changer

Now I’m a total, well was a few weeks ago, newbie to the dj scene. I've been to the clubs, danced to the tunes and thought I could do that, looks cool and could be fun. So I set about getting some equipment, ploughing through mags the name Citronic seemed to jump out at me and let me tell you what I brought was worth every penny.

I got myself two Citronic PD-1 decks and a mixer, and the decks are just brilliant.
They have all the features of some very pricey vinyl turners but with a very cheap price tag, only 150 squid that’s what they cost me!!!!

The PD-1 is a direct drive deck, and if your serious about dj'in u gotta get direct drive as opposed to belt drive, direct drive has a much quicker start up time, better cuing as the platter (bit the records on) doesn't slip and all the pros got them so they gotta be the biz :O)

It comes with slip mats and Stanton 500AL carts and stylus to run in the groves and catch the beats, and they are good quality sturdy carts.

The PD-1 also has a ±10% pitch change for slowing and speeding up those beats to get it in time with the next tune. There is a very quirky bit on the pitch control when taking it back to 0 as it has a point where there is a slight glitch, but this isn’t a problem once you master where to dump it in the tune, and no one even notices :O)

The deck has an 8 pole 2-phase brush less motor, which gives 1 Kgf.cm of start up torque and a start up time of just 1 second from 0 to 33.3 rpm. It has electronic brakes to stop the record and it will stop dead in about 1 second. It’s a pretty sturdy deck weighing in at just over 8.6kg and is 450 x 350 x 145 mm in dimension.

Once you get it out the packaging and manoeuvre through all the cables and padding it’s very simple to set up, put that there, this there plug it in put that in, that on and hey presto plug it into your mixer and the mixer into your amp and get out a bangin
g tune and you are up and running.

If your looking to get started in dj’ing and your on a budget of about 350 pounds then you can quite easily get a good deal with two PD-1 decks and a good mixer and all the trimmings for that. My advice to anyone looking to buy some direct drive decks is to get yourself a pair of these, they is mint and I aren’t tellin no porkies, happy mixing fellow djs.

Ow I know beat mixing is a very big challenge and takes a long time, otherwise everyone could be a top dj!
If your into the music and you wanna go for it what you waiting for, it sure is fun.....

Put it this way; £300 and you've almost got a decent beginner start-up. Get practising and in a few years time you might be able to put a decent mix together - it's a lot harder than you think, to a trained ear, even less forgiving. Good luck though.
