Citronic PD-1
by dirtybassdj The citronic PD1 is a well produced budget range turntable which immitates the look of the Technics 1200 series. You would pay only a fraction of the price in comparison to Technics at only £290 a pair you won't find much of a better deal for a set of direct drive turntables! The PD1s are quite heavy at 9.6KG per deck but ... not quite as heavy as the 1200 series at 12 KG each. Featuring the same design of the twist on/off button, quick start/stop, pitch selector and the pitch control are almost identical to the Technics models so it does make you feel like your using a pair of Technics but only by the eye as any professional hand would notice the precise differences between the models! The PD1 comes with Stanton 500 V3 Cartridges when purchased new which does prove to deliver a fine crisp sound with a good bass response and they are also known to feature Anti Skate control which stops your needle flying back and forth across the deck. The pitch control features a 10% pitch which allows beat matching with ease, the unit simply connects to any DJ mixer or amplifier via RCA phono leads. I would recommend these decks to anyone who's got the ambition to begin a new venture in the DJ industry or for anyone who simply want's a half decent set of direct drive turntables without the huge pricetag. Citronic PD-1
by jaydan The 1st decent turntable I owned.I had a pair of these about 7/8 years ago and they were my 1st pair of 'proper' turntables. They use a direct drive motor to power them which is a must if you are really trying to do any kind of djing. What i liked most about this turntable was its sturdiness,it has a very solid feel to it.Unlike most ... turntables in this range you put your hand on the platter and it starts moving but the pd1 did not. This was not my only reason for buying them but it was a big plus as i felt comfortable taking them to various places knowing they could take a knock or to. The overall look of the turntable is very stylish in my opinion, other turntables in this price range look well a bit cheap with big buttons and a very weak feel to them.this thing feels like it was built to last.I had them for about 2 years and never had any problems with them except replacement cartridges which is standard with any turntable. They held the speed of the vinyl very well. The pitch control was a little on the slow side it would take a while to react after I had moved the pitch control slider. Not a massive problem after you have had a few hours to get used to it. That was probably the only downside to it.It is very easy to take apart and clean. I have seen that you can pick up a pair of these now for £250,which is a bargain when you compare that to a price of a single Technics 1210 deck which is about £500.They are defiantly worth buying as entry level turntables or if you are looking to just dj as a hobby, then these are probably the best ones in that price range. Citronic PD-1
by APC303 I bought a pair of these, second hand, in 2005 or thereabouts. They were my first "decks". I had done my research on budget decks and they appeared to be the best option available. Bear in mind I was totally new to mixing, with no tuition or anyone to learn off. It took me a few months to be able to beatmatch with ... them and then I had the opportunity to play on Technics so I could kind of appreciate the difference between budget and industry standard. I also played on a few pairs of other budget decks such as Soundlabs. What I noticed was that the torque of the Citronic was quite a bit stronger than the Soundlab, and it would hold the speed of the record for much longer with very little variation. The torque was of course nowhere near that of the Technics. The design was fairly good but I couldn't help but feel that they would break easily if dropped. I never did this though so I have no idea. I would recommend these to someone thinking of starting mixing. You can pick up a pair for £100 off eBay on a fairly regular basis. You should be able to sell them for the same as you bought them for, if you want to shift them. If you are considering buying first hand then stop, you can most likely get a pair of 2nd Technics for the price of a pair of brand new PD-1's. You really won't have a problem with the Technic's being second hand. They will rarely be damaged or faulty. I recommend getting a pair of 2nd hand PD'1s and seeing how you get on, whether you can afford all the records you want (you'll end up selling your kidneys after a short while!). Stick a pair of Stanton needles on them and then if you don't want them or you are sure you like mixing and want to upgrade, then flog them on ebay to the next newcomer! The circle is complete!
