Advantages: I'll pass on that

Disadvantages: it'll play records and that's about it

Sony's "120" turntable can only be described as a rip off. It is the same model that's supplied with Sony's range of budget mini-systems but when sold as a seperates componment, at an average price of ninety nine quid, it is a poor joke.

Construction is poor. It's lightweight casing leaves a lot to be desired. The belt driven mechanisim is overtly noisy for others I've tried and sound reproduction is "average", for a mini system turntable. Controls are minimal (not even a mains on/off switch) and the audio output is two, low quality permanently fixed phoneo leads which, if you have a few componments may not reach unless one re-arranges ones stack. It is widespread knowledge that decent interconnects improove sound quality but this stupid design renders this impossible.

Even if this item was retailed at half the price quoted, it would be too expensive. A shame really as the other Sony componments I have are of decent build and quality. naturally, I didn't keep it.

Good op, have you considered the £115 project debut II? This sounds much better than the sony as it is built out of an MDF plinth, steel platter, and a £40 Ortofon OMB5E cartridge and stylus. It has won many awards becuase of its great sound and low price. The speed change is manual though.
