I love to play music when doing the housework for some reason the time goes quicker and you get things done without a fuss, although I have the radio in my kitchen I often like to play my vinyl collection and I have owned this Sony turntable for a long time now paying £140 for it when it was new from an elecrtical store in my local town. You can buy it now for £125 from Amazon and from the Sony site and other online stores.
This is a very easy to use turntable and when you get it you have to put it together by putting the drive belt on it before it will play any records. Once you have fitted the belt and put the rubber mat on the turn table it's ready to go. You can plug it into the amp by the jack plugs or you can plug it into your computer via the USB connector. It turns on with the button on the front and you have other buttons for 33rpm or 45rpm.
This allows you to plug and play then convert your vinyl records into mp3, there is a C.D and an instructon manual provided so that you can read how to do this but it is a simple process, the only thing is that the program doesn't recognise the names of the records your converting and just adds the tracks, you can name them manually after they have been loaded onto your computer, but this isn't a huge problem .
The sound quality is very good as you'd expect with any Sony turntable, the needle is a light one and I have had to replace mine once during the time I have owned this and have to say it took me a little while to find the right one in the end I had to take it back to the shop I bought the turntable from and order one which took two weeks to get to me.
The arm on the turntable is light and can be clipped back when not using but this is a very sensative player, I have had it playing my records when the grandchildren have run into the room and it has jumped on the record, so it needs to be level and steady before using and this is the same if using on the USB conneection.
The lid has a smooth operation up and down and can be removed for easy cleaning. The turntable is quiet when running and looks stylish and good, mine still looks new as I shut the lid when not using it to stop it getting dusty and dirty, this also helps to preserve the needle from getting dusty too.
Converting the records to Mp3 is fun and doesn't take long. I have been able to back up my record collection and although the sound quality picks up the crackles and a little static this gives the music an authentic quality of listening to the old records.
I have had fun with this turntable and think it's a reasonabe price for anyone's pocket. It looks good, is easy to use and converts your records to Mp3. It plays single records and albums and I would recommend this to you if your looking for a cheap and easy turntable to use without lots of technical drama.
Summary: easy to use and durable.
