I've been mixing now for a year and a half and I must say, after upgrading from some Technics from the 80s, that turntable quality is probably the most important element of your set. I purchased these decks second hand but they'd had minimal use. They were my first pair of direct drive decks but they were remarkably heavy. I set them up and immediately started to mix; the start-up time is adequate and the straight tonearm decreases jumping by sooo much. I always thought that the straight tonearm was only really necessary for scratching (I scratch rarely, however I do backspin) but it isn't and it, as well as the turntbale's sturdiness, has been very helpful while mixing. ...
