The AK47 of record players (Technics SL 1210 II)
Member Name: grannyknowsbest
Advantages: Sturdy reliable and packs a punch! Disadvantages: They certainly weigh more that you realise! Technics1210's The AK47 of the record player world this is built primarily to last, its sturdy frame and hard wearing exterior is both functional and simple I would consider this a design classic that is still being imitated! But don't mistake it's rough exterior with a brash or heavy handed sound, it produces (with a good stylist preferable a Concord needle) a warm and loud sound and it's uncomplicated design means that this sits both comfortably in any club or bar or upstairs in an inspiring young DJ'S bedroom! The price of these is still at a relative premium but as with the AK47 it will last as long as you need it too.....I've never set fire to one (couldn't bring myself to do that not even for a review!) But I'm sure if you did this would pass that test with flying colours! I bought one of mine secondhand which still cost me around the £200 mark but I've never had a problem with it and it still sounds great. There have been many new additions to the record player market in the past few years that offer more input alternatives (USB to name one) and a variety of functions/production options (The cheaper and less sturdier Numark and the more outlandish Vestax with it's distinctive straight arm feature) but as a record player this is among the best, being reliable, tough, edgy and a real brute with it's powerful sound output, it certainly does pack a punch! Summary: A design classic that produces on sound, value and functionality!
