I had such high hopes for this device and feel saddened that a potentially good tool is let down by appalling software. It was the first time I had seen a digital tv adaptor for a computer and I couldn't wait to get it. Well £70 later the box arrived complete with PCI card, install disk, aerial, and a posh looking remote control. Install was straightforward and the VisionDTV software found a load of digital tv channels within a couple of minutes.
...after that it all went a bit wrong. The problem is that once you have done your channel search some channels show up with their name e.g. BBC 1, ITV3 etc but other ones just show up as channel 34, 35, 36 etc. You can open them and watch the channel but as soon as you realise channel 35 is the BBC News Channel you have no way of renaming it to something more useful.
Opening one channel was great as long as I wanted to watch it all day. The picture and sound quality are as good as watching on a normal TV. If I tried to switch to another channel the software would hang. 10% of the time the channel would open, 90% of the time the vision dtv software would time out or crash. I have installed the device on 4 other computers and the same thing happened every time.
There are some good features such as an electronic programme guide and the ability to select a preselect a programme you want to record. Sadly I never had much use of these because trying to access them usually meant I wanted to change channel...and as we have seen that was not the best idea
