This is a spin-off of the original series of Beverly Hills 90210. I have become totally addicted to it and won't miss an episode (E4 on Monday at 9pm or Sunday at 6pm). Funnily enough when it first started me and a colleague watched the first episode and found the characters a bit annoying and didn't enjoy it very much. Then weeks later we both confessed that we'd given it a second chance and been watching it religiously ever since!

Setting the Scene:

Just like the starting point for the original 90210, the main female actress in the film, Annie, has moved with her family from her small-town lifestyle to the Glitz, Glamour and Richness of Beverly Hills. Life there is totally different from anything they're used to and settling into this new lifestyle is extremely eye-opening for them. Annie and her adopted brother Dixon easily make a crowd of new friends and there are the usual dramas associated with these teenage shows, normally revolving around boyfriends / girlfriends, fall-outs with friends, secrets, alcohol / drugs / parties, and other adventures.

The Characters:

Annie (Shenae Grimes):
When I first watched 90210 I found Annie extremely irritating - very over-the-top, and her dramatic way of talking really annoyed me. But I've got more used to her now and she's ok. She's a real 'golden girl', nice to everyone, has a good relationship with her parents and brother, pretty and intelligent, not too rebellious. But does she have a darker side looming??

Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord):
Naomi is the bad girl of the group. Very rebellious, extremely rich and snooty, pretty rude to people, but often as is the case with these rebellious types deep down she's quite a nice person. She has a terrible relationship with her dad and uses her knowledge of some of his secrets to take advantage of the fact that he's is extremely rich, so of course she has a lot of fun with his money. All-round she's a really fun character to watch.

Silver (Jessica Stroup):
Silver is the neurotic character of the crowd, who gets obsessed with ideas and has an unbelievable amount of energy. She's either extremely high or low - will this type of personality push her over the edge??

Adrianna (Jessica Lowndes):
I think Adrianna is a really likeable character who has a tough past behind her and as a result has got herself into serious trouble in a number of different ways. I won't give away too much but the consequences of the trouble she gets herself into are a very key part of the story.

Ethan (Dustin Milligan):
Ethan is the typical popular guy at school - good-looking, lots of friends, intelligent. But will he stay like this or will his character end up going down a different route?

Dixon (Tristan Wilds):
Dixon is Annie's adopted brother and is the real nice-guy of the crowd. As well as seeing him interact with the others in the crowd he also investigates his own heritage.

Navid (Michael Steger):
Navid has had a crush on Adrianna since about 2nd grade and this is how we are introduced to him a little later on than the other characters. Like all the others really he's a nice guy, intelligent and funny. But will he manage to get the love-of-his-life Adrianna to fall for him??

Verdict:

I find this show really entertaining and a little bit sad that I'm 28 but find myself really looking forward to 90210 every week when in theory it's about a bunch of 16 year olds. In reality of course they're all in their early 20s and even in the show seem older than 16. The money side of it is also ridiculous but I'm sure it does exist in places like this so it's probably not too far from the truth. All the kids have designer clothes (and always look perfect but just way too skinny) and go on amazing holidays and out for expensive meals - imagine having all that at 16!

If you can suspend your belief about their age and extravagance you'll find yourself hooked and dying to see the next episode
