BBC1 is the grand old lady of TV in this country (often referred to as Auntie), funded by us all through the licence fee whether or not we choose to watch it or not I reckon I'm one of those people who does get value for money from that fee, not only because I watch some BBC programmes but also because I also listen to the BBC radio shows as well.

The BBC is there to educate and entertain and I think it does this really well. It is the station that I trust when it comes to getting some news, I like the professional approach and the range of presenters that they offer.

It is excellent for comedy shows with Only Fools and Horses, Porridge and the more cutting edge The Young Ones all starting on the BBC although the latter was to be found on BBC2.

At the moment I'm quite hooked on The Apprentice with Alan Sugar and I still occasionally tune into Eastenders although to be honest a lot less these days than I did a few years ago.

It has been rocked recently over phone vote isssues which affected its long running childrens show Blue Peter however the fact that they continue to offer informative childrens TV is to be applauded now that ITV have pulled the plug and the other channels show a non stop diet of rubbish cartoons.

The other strength of BBC 1 is the excellent wildlife programmes it does, The Living Planet was superb and no other channel does this as well as the Beeb. Long may it continue.
