Advantages: Eastenders, Holby and no adverts

Disadvantages: license is still too expensive

BBC1, as the flagship station of the British Broadcasting Corporation, will always come under high scrutiny from the public as we fund it through our annual TV license fee. So naturally, opinion is strong as to whether or not the offering is worth the money for the public. I firmly believe it is and that the programs on the BBC stand the test of time and push boundaries and do all this without the annoying interruptions of adverts.

BBC1 offers your typical range of daytime programming, starting with news, sports news and weather until the DIY type programs begin in earnest. As you approach lunchtime you begin to get a couple of serial type programs and some nice quizzes like the impressively long running Weakest Link.

On weekdays, childrens TV gets the odd outing but now has its own dedicated channels like CBBC and CBeebies for such programs. You tend to go straight into soaps and drama programs after 6pm. I especially like Eastenders and thought provoking shows like Panorama. You can really see where the license money goes in these kind of shows.

There is no shortage of drama quality with the excellent Holby City at the forefront of Tuesday evenings. This is of course a spin off to the ultra-sucessful Casualty, another BBC1 classic. BBC1 is also the home of Doctor Who and that has to be worth the license fee alone.

Sport is catered for really well too and I can now enjoy the Grand Prix races on there and the brilliant Match of the Day programs at the weekend. These are really well produced and a good use of public money. BBC1 also covers the National Lottery and attracts millions of viewers to the station every Saturday and Wednesday night. I think these shows could be done better but that is only a minor gripe.

All in all, I am happy with the direction the BBC is going with this channel and look forward to new and exciting programs in the future.

Summary: The UK's flagship channel!
