Advantages: Caters to all
Disadvantages: Number of repeats
BBC One is the BBC or British Broadcasting Corporations leading flagship channel, and is the oldest of all TV channels that are operated by the BBC. BBC first started broadcasting in 1936 and over the years has had a number of name changes, from BBC Television Service, BBC TV, BBC1 and what it is now called BBC One.
Due to the history of the channel, it means that it has remained the primary channel of the BBC, what this means is the majority of the programmes that feature on the channel are the BBC's highest ratings programmes. Due to its prominence of being the flagship channel, it can best be described as a jack of all trades, as the channel has to cater to all people.
The main staple of the channel during the morning schedule are property and auction programmes. The problem that I have with the morning line up is that, while the programmes may be interesting, the majority of the times, the programmes are just repeats, which can be really annoying if you see the same episodes over and over again. Not what you particularly want to be spending your license fee on. One problem is the shows seem to cater towards women, and I don't find many programmes that are more aimed at men.
The afternoon schedule is taken up by the lunch time new, drama programme and children's TV. I actually like the afternoon line up with Doctors followed by Diagnosis murder; but I would like a new programme to replace Diagnosis Murder as again, there are only so many time that you can watch repeats; but then again I love Diagnosis Murder.
In the evening schedule there is usually an episode of The One Show, EastEnders and then drama programmes. It is usually the better, higher quality programmes that are shown at this time. The only problem that I have with the evening schedule the number of times that EastEnders is on during the week, as not everyone is a fan. The real time that I start to watch BBC One is around 9.00 pm, as this is usually the time the best programmes are shown.
Usually on the week there are many sports programmes that are shown, such as Match of the Day or the F1 programmes. It is that BBC One does so well, as they produce some of the best sports coverage.
Overall I would recommend BBC One, as it is an all round channel that caters to the masses, which it does well, as it regularly beats its rival channel, ITV 1 in the ratings. Although you may not enjoy some of the programmes on BBC One, as I don't like EastEnders, but there is usually something for everybody.
But there is one criticism that I have of the channel, which is the amount of repeats that are shown on the channel, I just wish that the amount would be reduced or removed altogether.
Summary: Actually quite a good channel

- 17/07/09 I think most of the bbcs output is utter garbage to be honest, with a couple of exceptions. Their news service is okay, although they frequently concentrate on non-stories like celebrity gossip at the expense of real news. |
