Advantages: no advertising breaks, you can change channel
Disadvantages: No good comedy, No Sports, Nothing mind expanding
There used to be a time when BBC1 supplied us with great documentaries, hilarious comedys, fantastic sports coverage and high quality news coverage. These days are now well in the past. If you tune into BBC1 nowadays, you will be unlikely to find anything even mildly interesting or mind expanding. The general BBC1 line-up these days will consist of at least two fly-on-the-wall documentaries about people doing their jobs and the "hilarious" consequences when things happen that happen every day, one program about how to make your house or garden look far worse than it does already without spending much money. There will also be a cookery show hosted by a B-list celebrity, where they don't tell you very much about cooking, but do tell some side-splitting anecdotes. And then of course, there is the flag-ship of the BBC - Eastenders. Why this program didn't go the same way as Eldorado continues to baffle me. It has the same tired old plots dredged up every couple of months, and seems to generally consist of people being unhappy. I assume the only reason it gets viewers is because people want to feel better about their lives. Of course, there is still the sports coverage... every month or so, BBC1 will show an England football match, and there's occasionally some golf and tennis, but not very often. Words don't describe the tedium of BBC1. I think i'll go and tune the number 1 on my tv to static, as i think that would be far more compelling viewing.
