Advantages: real, hard hitting
Disadvantages: over powering, sick
I'm sure all of us at some point have snuggled down to watch our best soap or program. But how many of us sit and really think about the content of what we are watching? While flicking through the channels recently I was sickened to see what the BBC felt was "classy" entertainment. I tuned in as usual to watch Casualty to see someone have their arm crushed and minced and bones and blood splattered all over the screen. Don’t get me wrong I have nothing wrong with a bit of blood but this program is showed early on the weekend when children are still awake and have easy access to the T.V. What kind of examples are we setting them showing them filth, such as how to kill your school bully? In schools and places of work, it seems almost a ritual to discuss the latest soap like eastender, emerdale, Hollyoaks, but do we watch so many soaps and “real life T.V” that we convince ourselves this is how we should act. And how many soaps do we need? They all seem to send across the same boring message that life sucks and to get on in life, shoot your boyfriend, kill your dad, hide him under the garden paving slabs! I don’t know what kind of sick dream the producers live in, but that’s not how I see my world. I like Eastenders and other programs who leave you thinking, good or bad, but with a growing generation of youths who stay up later and want to be more involved, should we really be viewing this material at this time? And it’s not just the BBC, In Brookside recently I was discussed to see a young catholic boy murder a young girl who was his bully. Surely material which brings up controversial subjects, but if the BBC and followers insist on viewing this filth, I feel it should be more constructive and ending positive with a message this nation can learn from. With a nation drawn to tacky television, subjects such as race, abortion etc are sure to crop up and be discussed but how does all this
gloom and depressive behaviour reflect on us in the" real world"? Are we all becoming clones Phil Mitchell’s and are our children the next Janine Butcher? Whatever the answer the BBC has the fate and all answers in the palm of it's hands.

- 08/04/02 This would probably do better in the detrimental effects of TV category. Email the powers that be and they will get it moved. Welcome to dooyoo and enjoy the site. :) |

- 08/04/02 I agree that the content can sometimes be very disturbing, but referring to it as filth is going over the top.
I've not been following the storyline on Brookie, but can I ask what you would prefer? Would it be okay if the Catholic boy stabbed the girl but then he went to confession? I don't uunderstand. Please clarify. |

- 08/04/02 Hi, welcome to dooyoo.
Thanks for taking the time to put your opinions down, it would make it a little easier to read if you wouldnt mind spell checking it and putting a few paragraphs in there.
You have some good points and I think I know what you mean but if you could change the structure a little it would be easier on the eye. |
